William Tryon was born about 1646 (based on being in "the 66th year of his age" when he died).1 He was first married probably between 13 January 1668/69 and 9 March 1669/70. The name of his first wife, and mother of his first eight children, is unknown. Gale Ion Harris has shown that she was not Mary Steele, as stated in the Tryon genealogy, and speculates that she may have been Mary Loveland.1,2 He married second Saint Robinson, daughter of Thomas Robinson and Mary (?), sometime between 7 June 1688 and 17 January 1688/89.1 He died on 12 October 1711 in Wethersfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut.1
The first record of William Tryon in Connecticut is dated 7 September 1665, when he appeared in court in Hartford. The reason for his appearance is unknown.1 No evidence has been found for the statements in the Tryon genealogy that he first married in England, came to New England after his first wife's death leaving two sons with his brother, and in 1663 (at about age 17!) bought the "finest estate on the Connecticut River" in Wethersfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut.1,2
He was living in the household of Mr. Richard Lord in Hartford, Hartford Co., Connecticut, on 13 January 1668/69, apparently unmarried.1 A little over a year later, on 9 March 1669/70, he was listed among the families in Hartford, with two people in his household, indicating that he was then married.1
On 4 March 1668/69 he sued Samuel Hurlbut in a Hartford court, claiming he was owed £1 10s, probably for unpaid wages. The suit was later withdrawn.1 On 7 November 1670 he was listed among those who were owed money from the estate of John Loveland.1
He moved to Wethersfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut, sometime before January 1673/74, when he was assessed there for the purchase of land from the Indians.1
On 17 January 1688/89 his wife Saint, during the settlement of her late husband Bezaleel Lattimer's estate, complained in probate court that her current husband William Tryon had "fraudently (sic) conveyed away from her a Writing made between them before marriage." The court ruled that William was allowed the improvement of Lattimer's estate, under the condition that he provide a 1/3 share of the support of his (step)-children Jonathan and Bathsheba.1
On 24 April 1691 he bought a house and 10 acres of land in Wethersfield from Peter Blinn.1 On 1 June 1692 he bought a one-acre lot in Wethersfield from John Hollister Sr.1 And on 15 April 1695 he was listed among those who drew lots in Wethersfield.1
On 14 April 1697 he accepted a judgment against him in court in Hartford for 32s 9d owed to Walter Harris of Glastonbury.1 On 28 April 1701 he was named to a committee charged with laying out lots "in the Five-Mile Purchase" in Glastonbury, Hartford Co., Connecticut.1 On 8 May 1706 he apparently borrowed £20 from his stepdaughter Bathsheba Lattimer, using a mortgage deed for five acres of land as security. She quitclaimed the property back to him on 1 March 1708/09.1
In May 1711 he sold eight acres of land ("halfe of my parcel in Wethersfield") to George Stillman for £32. The deed was not legally acknowledged before William's death, and on May 1712 Stillman petitioned the General Court about the matter. The General Assembly ruled that the deed was proper.1
His estate was inventoried on 7 January 1711/12, and valued at £309 4s 8d. After debts were paid to several people, including his sons Thomas, Joseph, Ziba, and David, his estate was distributed to his nine children on 6 April 1713.1

Saint Robinson married first Bezaleel Lattimer, son of John Lattimer and Ann (?), on 18 August 1680 (the Tryon genealogy mistakenly says 18 August 1661).1,2 She married second William Tryon between 7 June 1688 and 17 January 1688/89.1 She died on 7 December 1711 in Wethersfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut.1

He was named in various deeds recorded in Wethersfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut, from April 1702 to August 1718.1 On 10 August 1719 he bought 16 1/2 acres of land in Glastonbury, Hartford Co., Connecticut, from Thomas Hollister.1 He was "of Middletown" when he sold 1/2 acre in Glastonbury to his brother Thomas.1 On 15 November 1729 he deeded parts of the "lott I now dwell on" in Glastonbury to his sons Jonathan, Noah, Benjamin, and Ezra.1
The Tryon genealogy says that he lived in Wethersfield until 1719, in Middletown, Hartford Co. (now Middlesex Co.), Connecticut, from 1721 to 1723, and in Glastonbury in September 1725. This is in agreement with his residence stated in his various land transactions.2
