On 25 April 1734 he was chosen by his brother Ezra as his guardian.1
On 23 April 1744 he bought 23 acres of land in Wethersfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut, from Elisha and Eunice Williams.1 He was living in Middletown, Hartford Co. (now Middlesex Co.), Connecticut, in August 17451 when he sold a 1 1/2 acre lot in Wethersfield to Thomas Harris.1

On 2 April 1742 he bought two small parcels of land, one in Middletown, Hartford Co. (now Middlesex Co.), Connecticut, and one in Glastonbury, Hartford Co., Connecticut, from his brother Benjamin.1 On 13 December 1752 he bought 1/2 acre of land in Glastonbury from his cousin William Tryon.1
His will was dated 3 October 1758 and proved on 5 December 1758. In it he named his wife Penelope, sons Noah, Eleizur, and David, and daughters Penelope, Jemima, Mary, and Hannah.1

Donald Jacobus says that "tentatively and with some likelihood" he was a son of Sgt. Jeremiah Gillett, and the Tryon genealogy lists him as the son of Jeremiah Gillitt and Deborah Bartlett.3,2
On 30 November 1702 he bought land in Wethersfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut, from his wife's brother David Tryon3, and Wethersfield records dated 12 July 1703 show the purchase of 10 acres that had been laid out to John Kilburn.3 He sold the latter property to James Peterson on 29 April 1708.3
He and his wife Sarah moved to Newtown, Fairfield Co., Connecticut, about 17161, where on 2 November 1717 he bought part of a 60-acre tract from Samuel Sanford.3 On 23 March 1722 he deeded four acres of land to his son Abel.3 He was assessed £72 in a levy made in Newtown in 1739.1
He gifted to his son Samuel half of his house, barn, and lot in Newtown on 13 March 1744/451, and deeded additional land to him on 23 March 1753.3 On 23 January 1756 he sold sold 12 or 13 acres of "upland and boggy meadow" in Newtown to his son William for £120.1,3 On 26 February 1763, the same day he made his will, he deeded several additional parcels of land to his son Samuel.1
His will was dated 26 February 1763 in Newtown and proved on 5 February 1770. In it he mentioned his sons William, John, and Samuel, his daughters Hannah Sanford, Sarah Summers, Mary Ferris ("now Griffin"), and Hope Graves ("now Burne"), and the heirs of his son Abel.1

On 23 January 1756 his father sold him 12 or 13 acres of "upland and boggy meadow" in Newtown, Fairfield Co., Connecticut, for £120.1,2 At the time he was living in Milford, New Haven Co., Connecticut.1 He was living in Huntington, Suffolk Co., New York, where his son Elisha was a minister, in 1760.2 In 1780 he was living in New Milford, Litchfield Co., Connecticut.1 From various records, he worked both as a blacksmith and a doctor.2

On 30 September 1727 he bought a "Mansion house & barn" with five acres of land in Wethersfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut, from Daniel Rose for £290.2 On 6 August 1733 he mortgaged six acres to the Connecticut colony for £75. The mortgage was released on 9 February 1735/362, and the next day he sold 11 acres, including an orchard and buildings, to John Mitchell for £800.2
On 2 March 1735/36 he bought an 80-acre farm in Newington, Hartford Co., Connecticut, from Joseph and Benjamin Woodbridge for £320.1,2 Later that month, on 29 March 1736, he mortgaged 16 acres of it to the Connecticut colony for £75; the mortgage was released on 6 April 1747.2 A week later, on 13 April 1747, he sold his 80-acre farm in Newington to Martin Kellogg for £1700.2
He eventually moved to Canaan, Litchfield Co., Connecticut,2 where he had purchased land on 9 April 1745.2
His will was dated 23 February 1764 in Canaan and proved on 19 March 1764. In it he named his wife Mary and seven children.1

He was called a shipwright on 1 June 17131,2, when he and his wife Rebecca quitclaimed their rights in the estate of her father to her brother John Dix.2 On 3 March 1713 (probably 1713/14) he conveyed his rights in his father's Wethersfield estate to George Stillman.1 On 1 October 1723 he bought 1/2 acre of land in Glastonbury, Hartford Co., Connecticut, from his brother David.1

The Tryon genealogy says that she was the daughter of Elizabeth (Harris) Hunnewell, that her father's surname was Birdsey, that her mother married John Hunnewell after the death of her first husband, and "evidently Abiah adopted his name." However, recent research by Gale Ion Harris concludes that she was illegitimate, and that her father's name is unknown.2,1
