In 1775 Ebenezer Grant was a private in the 5th. Company, 2nd. Regiment.2 He later served as collector, tythingman, lister. surveyor, and grand juror.2
He and his first wife Phebe had one known child, Oliver (b 20 November 1779, d 22 October 1794).3
He and his second wife Juliana also one known child, a daughter whose name is unknown (b 12 October 1783, d 26 December 1783).3

He graduated in 1765 from Yale University in New Haven, New Haven Co., Connecticut.1 He was a merchant1, and lived on the family homestead in East Windsor Hill, Hartford Co., Connecticut.1
He may have commanded the ship Connecticut "in the affair on Lake Champlain" in 1776 (the Battle of Valcour Island on 11 October 1776?). In 1777 he was Captain of the 1st. Company, 19th. Regiment, and in 1778 was part of the 1st. Battalion. He was on a committee to recruit soldiers in 1780, was in charge of the commissary of prisoners from 1780 to 1782, served as paymaster of the 1st. Brigade from 1780 to 1786, was a Lt. Col. in the 19th. Connecticut Brigade in 1794, and Captain of a volunteer company in 1812.1
He served as surveyor, lister, tax collector, representative, Justice of the Peace, meeting moderator, and U. S. collector for the 5th. District of Connecticut.1 He was also clerk and treasurer of the church.1

He graduated from Harvard College in Cambridge, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts, in 1761, and was licensed as a minister in 1765. He was ordained as the minister of the First Church of Christ in Wethersfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut, in 1774, and remained there until his death in 1821. He also served as a fellow of Yale College in New Haven, New Haven Co., Connecticut, from 1801 to 1820, and received a Doctor of Divinity degree from Yale about 1807. He was a strong supporter of independence during the Revolutionary War.2

He and his first wife Anna lived in Coventry, Tolland Co., Connecticut.1 About 1790, after her death, he moved to Greensburgh, Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania.1
