     Charles Tharp was born about 1801 in Rowan Co., North Carolina.¹

     Airy Whitaker was born on 24 August 1779 in Rowan Co., North Carolina.¹ She married Boaz Tharp, son of Thomas Tharp and Elizabeth Pegg, on 14 June 1802 in Rowan Co., North Carolina.¹ She died in Columbia Twp., Fayette Co., Indiana.¹ She was buried at Klun Cemetery in Fayette Co., Indiana.¹
     She and her husband Boaz probably moved to Montgomery Co., Ohio, shortly after their marriage in 1802, at the same time as Boaz's brother Thomas.² They moved to Indiana sometime in late 1811.¹

     William Tharp was born about 1803 in Montgomery Co., Ohio.¹ He married Eliza (?) about 1825 in Fayette Co., Indiana.¹ He died about 1849 in Columbia Twp., Fayette Co., Indiana.¹

     Eliza (?) was born about 1804.¹ She married William Tharp, son of Boaz Tharp and Airy Whitaker, about 1825 in Fayette Co., Indiana.¹ She died before 1854.¹

     Andrew Tharp was born about 1805.¹

     Letitia Tharp was born in 1806 in Preble Co., Ohio.¹ She married Charles P. Stephens on 27 April 1824 in Fayette Co., Indiana.¹ She died in 1884 in Columbia Twp., Fayette Co., Indiana.¹ She was buried at Klun Cemetery in Fayette Co., Indiana.¹

     Charles P. Stephens was born in 1798.¹ He married Letitia Tharp, daughter of Boaz Tharp and Airy Whitaker, on 27 April 1824 in Fayette Co., Indiana.¹ He died in 1887 in Fayette Co., Indiana.¹ He was buried at Klun Cemetery in Fayette Co., Indiana.¹

     Lydia Hannah Tharp was born in 1809 in Preble Co., Ohio.² She married Metackkequah, son of the Indian Chief Metosina, about 1827 in Wabash Co., Indiana.³ She committed suicide after the death of her husband in 1850, by drowning herself in the Mississinewa River in LaFontaine, Wabash Co., Indiana.³
     She was taken captive by the Miami Indians in the spring of 1813 in Indiana. Her father spent many years searching for her, but she was not seen again until she was fully grown and married.⁴ She and Metackkequah had two known children, Charles (b abt 1832) and Hannah (b abt 1834).²

     Matilda Tharp was born in 1815.¹ She married William Monteith about 1837 in Harrison Twp., Fayette Co., Indiana.¹

     William Monteith was born in 1807.¹ He married Matilda Tharp, daughter of Boaz Tharp and Airy Whitaker, about 1837 in Harrison Twp., Fayette Co., Indiana.¹

     Metackkequah was born about 1807.¹ Metackkequah married Lydia Hannah Tharp, daughter of Boaz Tharp and Airy Whitaker, about 1827 in Wabash Co., Indiana.¹ Metackkequah died in 1850 in Ashland (now LaFontaine), Wabash Co., Indiana, after being hit in the head with a hoe during a fight.¹
     Metackkequah was known by the whites as Captain Dixon.¹ He and Lydia had two known children, Charles (b abt 1832) and Hannah (b abt 1834).²

     Rebecca Hawkins was born on 22 May 1788 in Bourbon Co., Kentucky.¹ She married Andrew Tharp, son of Thomas Tharp and Elizabeth Pegg, on 15 September 1806 in Eaton, Preble Co., Ohio.¹ She died on 3 June 1831 in Knightstown, Henry Co., Indiana, at age 43.¹
     She and her husband Andrew moved to Clark Co. (now Fayette Co.), Indiana, about 1809.¹ Sometime before June 1814 they moved a few miles north to Wayne Co. (now Fayette Co.), Indiana.¹

     Elizabeth Tharp was born on 2 June 1807 in Montgomery Co., Ohio.² She married Nide Pettyjohn on 12 August 1824 in Rush Co., Indiana.² She died on 4 October 1886 in Savannah, Andrew Co., Missouri, at age 79.²
     She and Nide had the following known children, all born in Rush Co., Indiana: William Alexander (b 25 September 1825, d 2 December 1903), Washington Tharp (b 3 January 1827, d 26 May 1894), Lydia Ellen (b 5 January 1828, d abt 1912), Susan Ann (b 25 April 1829).²

     Solomon Tharp was born on 25 September 1808 in Preble Co., Ohio.¹ He died on 19 November 1834 in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana, at age 26.¹

     Thomas James Tharp was born on 28 January 1810 at what is now in Connersville, Fayette Co., Indiana.^1,3 He married Sarah Ann Roane, daughter of Fayette Roane and Elizabeth Hunt, in 1836 in Harrodsburg, Mercer Co., Kentucky.^1,3 He died on 3 December 1849 at home in Louisville, Jefferson Co., Kentucky, at age 39, from a stomach inflammation according to the paper, but possibly actually from cholera, which was epidemic in the area.^1,3
     His father's death in 1830, then his mother's in 1831, left him at age 21 with eight younger siblings still at home. There were eleven surviving children in total, and he ended up acquiring the rights to nearly half of his parents' land in Ripley Twp., Rush Co., Indiana - his own 1/11 share, plus four others that he bought from his oldest siblings, then all over the age of 18. The land was officially partioned on 4 July 1831, with Thomas receiving 160 acres and his six youngest siblings, all under 18, receiving 165 acres.¹
     As administrator of his parents' estate, he was responsible for his minor siblings. In May 1832 he petitioned the probate court in Rush Co. asking that he be replaced as administrator, releasing him from those responsibilities. He also asked to be appointed legal guardian of his youngest sibling, five-year-old Hawkins. That same month, on 3 May, he sold the 160 acres of family land in Ripley Twp., that he had acquired after his parents' deaths, for $800.¹
     He and Hawkins then moved to Harrodsburg, Mercer Co., Kentucky, where he began studying law. In late in October 1832 he went back to Indiana and again petitioned the court, this time asking that a legal guardian be appointed for all six of his youngest siblings, apparently including Hawkins. Samuel Biggar, a Rushville lawyer, was appointed. He returned to Harrodsburg in January 1833.¹
     After their marriage in 1836, he and his wife Sarah moved to Louisville, Jefferson Co., Kentucky, where he practiced law. In April 1841 his sister Martha came to live with his family, and in August 1841 his youngest brother Hawkins returned to live with the family, after the death of their brother George who he had been living with.¹
     He and Sarah had five sons and a daughter, all born in Louisville, but names are only known for three sons: Patrick Henry (b September 1837, d September 1881), Spencer Roane (b 20 January 1842, d 1 September 1905), and Andrew Thomas (b January 1846, d 1 January 1912).^4,1

     Lydia Worthington Tharp was born on 12 April 1811 in Franklin Co., Indiana.¹ She married Hawkins Caesar Fouts about 1831 in Rush Co., Indiana.¹ She died before 1887 in Jay Co., Indiana.¹

     Hawkins Caesar Fouts was born on 10 January 1811 in Wayne Co., Indiana.¹ He married Lydia Worthington Tharp, daughter of Andrew Tharp and Rebecca Hawkins, about 1831 in Rush Co., Indiana.¹ He died about 1849 in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana.¹

     George Washington Tharp was born on 16 February 1813 in Franklin Co., Indiana.¹ He died on 20 July 1841 in Louisville, Jefferson Co., Kentucky, at age 28.¹

     Maria Tharp was born on 4 April 1815 in Wayne Co., Indiana.¹ She died before 1830 in Rush Co., Indiana.¹

     Letitia Maria Tharp was born on 14 April 1817 in Fayette Co., Indiana.¹ She died on 31 August 1886 at age 69.¹

     Sarah Eleanor Tharp was born on 11 July 1818 in Jay Co., Indiana.¹ She married Thomas Ward in 1840.¹ She died in 1854 in Randolph Co., Indiana.¹

     Thomas Ward was born about 1819 in Ohio.¹ He married Sarah Eleanor Tharp, daughter of Andrew Tharp and Rebecca Hawkins, in 1840.¹ He died after 1887 in Winchester, Randolph Co., Indiana.¹

     Martha Ann Tharp was born on 29 November 1820 in Fayette Co., Indiana.¹ She married Philemon Bliss on 19 November 1843 in Louisville, Jefferson Co., Kentucky.¹ She died on 3 August 1897 in San Francisco, San Francisco Co., California, at age 76.¹

     Philemon Bliss was born on 28 July 1813 in Canton, Hartford Co., Connecticut.¹ He married Martha Ann Tharp, daughter of Andrew Tharp and Rebecca Hawkins, on 19 November 1843 in Louisville, Jefferson Co., Kentucky.¹ He died on 25 August 1889 in Oakland, Alameda Co., California, at age 76.¹
     He served as presiding judge of the 14th. Judicial Court of Ohio from 1848 to 1851.¹ From 4 March 1855 to 3 March 1859 he served as representative from Ohio to the U.S. Congress.¹ When the Dakota Territory was formed in 1861 he was appointed by President Lincoln as the first chief justice of the Dakota Territory Supreme Court¹, and also served as an associate justice of the Missouri Supreme Court from 1868 to 1872.¹ From then until his death in 1889 he was dean of the law school at the University of Missouri.¹
