He served during the Civil War in Co. B of the 29th Ohio Infantry, enlisting as a private on 19 August 1861 for three years service. When his term ended he re-enlisted and served until the end of the war, just under four years in all.3
The 29th Ohio first saw action at Winchester, Virginia (the Battle of Kernstown), on 23 March 1862, and then at the Battle of Port Republic in Rockingham Co., Virginia, on 9 June 1862.6 The latter was a Confederate victory, and the 29th Ohio had 12 men killed, 33 wounded, and 105 captured. Job Brazee was one of those captured.7 He was held at Belle Isle Prison in the James River at Richmond, Virginia, for two months, then apparently released through a prisoner exchange program.8,9
Exactly when he rejoined his unit isn't known, but after his release the 29th Ohio fought in several more battles, including the Battle of Chancellorsville 1-5 May 1863, and the Battle of Gettysburg 1-3 July 1863. They were part of the Atlanta Campaign under Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman from May to September 1864, then Sherman's March to the Sea in November and December, and participated in the Grand Review in Washington on 24 May 1865.6 He was mustered out with his company on 13 July 1865 near Louisville, Kentucky.10
After their marriage, he and his first wife Eunice lived for a time in Piermont Twp., Ashtabula Co., Ohio. Living with them in 1870 were Esther Armstrong, age 19, and one-month-old Zella B. Armstrong, probably Esther's daughter.11 They moved to Denmark Twp., Ashtabula Co., by 188012, where they lived most of the rest of their lives.12,13 In 1910, after his first wife Eunice's death, Job was listed in the census as living alone, still in Denmark Twp.14
He was a farmer, concentrating on dairy farming, at least late in his life.11,12,13,14,3
He and his first wife Eunice had three children, with one, whose name is unknown, dying before 1900. The other two were Pluma A. (b 22 January 1871), and Guy O. (b November 1875, d 18 January 1902).12,13,3

He served during the Civil War, initially enlisting on 3 September 1864. His military record lists his age at enlistment as 18, but his birth date from the 1850 census indicates he was actually two months shy of his 15th. birthday. He joined Co. K of the 177th Ohio Infantry on 4 October 1864. They immediately left for Nashville, Tennessee, then went to Tullahoma. In December they were ordered to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where they engaged a Confederate force on 7 December, capturing two artillery pieces and about 200 prisoners. In mid-January 1865 the regiment traveled by river to Cincinnati, then by rail to Washington, D.C., then to Annapolis, Maryland, and finally by boat to Fort Fisher, North Carolina, where they arrived on 7 February. They were involved in three attacks along the Cape Fear River, at Fort Anderson, and at Town Creek. They were then near Wilmington, North Carolina, where Peter died of disease at age 15.2,3,1

She and her husband Charles were living in Manlius Twp., Allegan Co., Michigan, in 1870.3 They had two known children, Perry (b abt 1868) and Charles (b abt 1872).3,6
The identification of Drucilla Brazee as the first wife of Charles Mathews, and the division of his children among his two marriages, requires some explanation. In the 1880 census entry for Drucilla's parents Peter and Lucretia Brazee in Pierpont Twp., Ashtabula Co., Ohio, a Charles Mathews (age 9, born in Michigan, with father and mother born in Ohio) was listed with them as a grandson. This implies that one of their daughters married a Mathews. Their daughters Olive, Martha, Sarah, and Vesta were all married to men not named Mathews by 1871 (see their records for details and sources), leaving Drucilla as the probable mother of Charles Mathews. In the 1870 census, Charles and Drusilla Mathews (age 25 and 19, both born in Ohio) are listed in Manlius Twp., Allegan Co., Michigan, with Perry Mathews (age 2, born in Ohio). In 1880 Charles (age 35, born in Ohio) and Lucinda Mathews (age 27, born in Canada) are listed in Thompson, Geauga Co., Ohio, with children Perry (age 12, born in Ohio), Charles (age 8, born in Michigan), William, Stella, and Rena (ages 7, 3, and 1, all born in Ohio). Charles and Lucinda are listed together again in 1900 and 1910, with children Edna and Frank, and Lucinda is listed in both censuses as having had five children, all then living.
From this, it seems probable that Charles married first Drucilla Brazee, and had children Perry and Charles. (Note that the son Charles was listed twice in the 1880 census, once with his father and stepmother in Geauga Co., Ohio, and once with his maternal grandparents in neighboring Ashtabula Co., Ohio.) He married Lucinda as his second wife, with whom he had the five children William, Stella, Rena, Edna and Frank.
The conclusion that Charles's first wife Drucilla was Drucilla Brazee is strengthened by Perry Mathews' marriage record, which lists his parents as Chas. W. Mathews and Lucinda A. Brazee, and the witnesses as C. W. Mathews and Lucinda A. Mathews. Although his mother's given name is listed as Lucinda instead of Drucilla, it seems likely that this is simply an error in the record, combining the given name of his stepmother with the maiden name of his actual mother. From the census data, Perry's mother was clearly Drucilla, not Lucinda.
The division of Charles's children between his two marriages is strengthened by the transcript of Stella's birth record, which lists her parents as Charles W. Mathews and Lucinda Ann Mayberry. Thus, his four youngest children Stella, Rena, Edna, and Frank were by his second wife Lucinda. Since the censuses indicate that Lucinda had five children, that she and Charles were married in 1872, and that William was born about 1873, William was likely also Lucinda's son.7,3,6,4,8,9,10

He served during the Civil War as a private in Co. G of the 150th New York Infantry, enlisting on 24 August 1862 in Beekman, Dutchess Co., New York.1 The regiment was mustered in on 10 and 11 October 1862, and immediately left for Baltimore, Maryland, where it was stationed until July 1863. It then joined the 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, 12th Corps, and saw its first action at the Battle of Gettysburg. They later fought in Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina, including the Siege of Atlanta and Sherman's march to the sea. At the close of the war the regiment participated in the Grand Review in Washington, D.C., and was officially mustered out on 8 June 1865.5 William was not at the Grand Review, however. He was hospitalized on 13 March 1865 in Wilmington, New Hanover Co., North Carolina, and later died there without returning home.4,3
