She and her first husband Harry moved from Anderson, Madison Co., Indiana, to Indianapolis, Marion Co., Indiana, in 1906.1 She continued living in Indianapolis, Marion Co., Indiana, after her second husband Nathaniel's death, where she is listed in the 1920 to 1940 censuses.11,12,13 She owned a restaurant in 1920, and was working as a restaurant cook in 1930.14,15
On 8 November 1927 she filed for a pension based on Nathaniel's service in the Spanish-American War, and in the Indian wars. The Indian wars application was rejected on 11 Apr 1928 because he hadn't served in any zone of active Indian hostilities. The other pension was granted, after a lengthy special examination to determine her eligibility, on 22 August 1929. She was awarded $30/month, which was reduced to $15/month on 1 July 1933, then increased to $40/month on 1 April 1944.16
From change of address forms in the pension file, it appears that starting in 1948 she moved back and forth between Indianapolis and her daughter Mabel's home in southern California several times, staying a few months to a year or more in each place. She apparently permanently moved in with Mabel in Glendale, California, in March 1956.16
