She and her husband Ernest are listed in Milton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts, in the 1900 and 1910 censuses, along with their children and five servants.7,8 She continued to live there after her husband's death in 1918, and is listed in 1920 with her children Elizabeth, Richard, and Sara, and three servants, and in 1930 with just her daughter Sarah.9,10

She and her husband Augustus are listed living with Augustus's father in Milton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts, in the 1930 census, along with their children and eight servants.7 They are again listed there in the 1940 census, apparently in the same house after Augustus's father's death, again with their children, and with a cook, two maids, and a servant.8 She and Augustus are listed a second time in 1940, as guests at the Oak Hall Hotel in Tryon, Polk Co., North Carolina.9

She was educated at the Milton Academy in Milton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts, and St. Timothy's School in Stevenson, Baltimore Co., Maryland,4 before going on to Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in 19311, and with a medical degree in 1935.4 She also earned a master's from the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston in 1948.4
At the time of her marriage in 1939 she was a resident at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.5 She joined the British Medical Service as a medical officer at the outbreak of World War II, and later moved to the U.S. Army Medical Corps, retiring as a colonel. She was awarded the Bronze Star for her work as an assistant military attache at the American Embassy in London.4
She was assistant director of the venereal disease division of the Massachusetts Dept. of Public Health in 1949, then returned to Johns Hopkins Hospital, working for the Army as a civilian. From 1957 to 1959 she served as assistant chief of health and welfare for a U.S. aid mission to Haiti. At the time of her death she was chief of health data in the preventive medicine division at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Silver Spring, Montgomery Co., Maryland.4
She lived primarily in Washington, D.C., and spent summers at Isle au Haut, Knox Co., Maine. In the 1940s she and her brother Richard and sister Elizabeth donated most of the family's land on the island to the National Park Service, and it is now part of Acadia National Park.4
