He graduated from Harvard University in Cambridge, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts, with a bachelor's degree in 1901, and a master's degree in 1903.8
He and his wife Elizabeth are listed living with his father in Milton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts, in the 1930 census, along with their children and eight servants.9 They are again listed there in the 1940 census, apparently in the same house after Augustus's father's death, again with their children, and with a cook, two maids, and a servant.10 He and Elizabeth are listed a second time in 1940, as guests at the Oak Hall Hotel in Tryon, Polk Co., North Carolina.11
He was a mining engineer5, and a director of the Eustis Mining Co. in Sherbrook, Quebec, Canada, from 1910 to 1938, and president from 1932 to 1944.8 He was also associated with the Virginia Smelting Co. in West Norfolk, Virginia, from the time of its founding in 19095, serving as vice president and director from 1909-32, president and director from 1932-57 and board chairman from 1957-61.8,12
He was a member of the American Institute of Mining & Metallurgical Engineers, the Electro Chemical Society, and the American Society of Refrigeration Engineers.8
He was also an avid yachtsman, and competed internationally while young.5
