Mary Ann Kelley1

Mary Ann Kelley married Anthony H. Morse, son of Wareham Morse and Elizabeth Lathrop, on 24 June 1842.1 She died in New York, New York.1
She and her husband Anthony are listed in New Haven, New Haven Co., Connecticut, in the 1850 census, with children Warham (age 7), Eliza L. (5), and Eunice J. (9/12).2 In 1860, after Anthony's death, she is listed in New Haven with Wareham and Eliza (listed as Warren and Elizabeth). Eunice is not listed, but Emma J. (age 10) is.3 Mary is again listed there in 1870, with Eliza L. and Emma C.4

Children of Mary Ann Kelley and Anthony H. Morse

Given their ages and similar-looking names when written out, it's tempting to assume that the Eunice Morse listed in the 1850 census, and the Emma Morse listed in 1860 and 1870, are the same person, and that her listing as Eunice is an error, possibly a transcription error when creating the state or federal copy. Supporting this is Anthony's biographical sketch in the Norwich University history, which includes his daughter Carlin who died as an infant, but does not mention Eunice.1 And no other records have been found for a Eunice Morse that fit the information we have.
However, using the official 1850 census date of 1 June, Eunice's age of 9/12 implies a birth date of August 1849. And all the other records that have been found for Emma, including her father's biographical sketch,1 a passport application,5 her cemetery marker,6 and the 1900 census,7 say she was born in November 1850, meaning she could not have been listed in the 1850 census.
So, either (1) Anthony and his second wife Mary had an additional child Eunice who was born about August 1849, lived at least nine months, and died before 1860; or (2) Eunice and Emma are indeed the same person, and Emma's birth date of 22 November 1850 is wrong.

Two neighbor girls, Lettie Stowe and Hattie King, were on a raft, and invited her to join them. They were soon joined by Lettie's sister Alta. When the overloaded raft started to sink, Alta and Hattie jumped off toward the shore, and Lettie and Elizabeth jumped off the other side into 6-7 feet of water. They were rescued by Ezra Fisher and Wells Stowe. Lettie survived, and Elizabeth was conscious initially, but soon died.3,1 She was buried at Prospect Hill Cemetery (Plot 8-509) in Brattleboro, Windham Co., Vermont.1

Clarissa (?)

d. 12 January 1868
Clarissa (?) married first Hiram Morse, son of Anthony Morse and Huldah Taylor.1 She married second (?) Blanchard.1 She died on 12 January 1868.2 She was buried at Porter Hill Cemetery in Hermon, St. Lawrence Co., New York.2
The identification of Hiram Morse's wife as Clarissa, and their son as Wareham, is tentative, and based on circumstantial evidence.
According to the Morse genealogy by Henry Dutch Lord, Hiram Morse's wife drowned in a pond in West Brattleboro, Windham Co., Vermont, and he died shortly afterward, leaving a son.3 The Morse genealogy by Morse and Leavitt doesn't say anything about his death, but does say that he married and left one son, who lived in West Brattleboro, Vermont.4
However, there's a Wareham Morse, born 1815 in Chateaugay, Franklin Co., New York, who married Elizabeth Potter.5,6 Elizabeth drowned on 7 August 1879 in West Brattleboro, and Wareham died there from a drug overdose about seven months later.7,8 So, the information about Hiram's death is very likely wrong. Lord's source for Hiram's death was either confused, or Lord misinterpreted the information. Given that Hiram had a brother with the somewhat unusual name Wareham (born 1778)9, it's likely that this Wareham (born 1815) is related to the family. Further, given that the Morse genealogy by Morse and Leavitt says Hiram's son lived in West Brattleboro, and given that Wareham died there, it seems likely that Wareham was Hiram's son.
From a newspaper article about Elizabeth's death, and from the 1880 U.S. Census Mortality Schedule, Wareham and Elizabeth moved to Windham Co., Vermont, from Canton, St. Lawrence Co., New York, about 1872,7,10 and they are listed in Canton in the 1860 and 1870 censuses, along with their son Henry.11,12 In 1850, Wareham, age 33, is listed in Canton with a Clarissa Morse, age 53, born in Vermont.13 In Wareham's death record (which is a transcription) his father's first name is a little difficult to read, but looks like Henry, and his mother is listed as Clarisa.14
Finally, there's a grave marker at Porter Hill Cemetery in Hermon, St. Lawrence Co., New York, that reads "Clarissa Blanchard, former wife of Hiram Morse, died Jan. 12 1868." Her age is also inscribed, and appears to be 73 or 78, but the marker is worn and difficult to read.2
From the above evidence, it appears that Hiram Morse married Clarissa (--?--), and they had a son Wareham in 1815. Hiram probably died not long afterward, and Clarissa was remarried to (--?--) Blanchard. (Hiram and Clarissa may have divorced, but if so, it seems unlikely that Clarissa's grave marker would name him.)15

Lillie D'Angelo Bergh (1854-1941). From Frances E. Willard and Mary A. Livermore, "A Woman of the Century: Fourteen Hundred-seventy Biographical Sketches Accompanied by Portraits of Leading American Women in All Walks of Life" (Buffalo, New York: Charles Wells Moulton, 1893), p. 77.
Elizabeth Payne Berg was born on 26 April 1854 in New York, New York.1 She died on 11 July 1941 at Midtown Hospital in Manhattan, New York, New York, at age 87.2 She was buried on 14 July 1941 at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Kisco, Westchester Co., New York.2,3
She was apparently born as Elizabeth Payne Berg. She's listed by that name in the Wellman genealogy, and in a news article about her parents' 50th anniversary1,4, but used the name Lillie D'Angelo (her paternal grandmother's surname) Berg (or Bergh) most of her adult life.5,2
She was well-educated, traveled widely, and fluent in five languages. She grew up in Germany, where she studied under several well-known musicians, and graduated from the Royal School of Music in Stuttgart.6 She taught voice in New York City, and was very involved in organizing concerts and recitals in the area. It is said that she was the first woman in the U.S. to publicly conduct an orchestra, when she conducted Smart's "King Rent's Daughter" at Carnegie Hall in April 1891.6
She's listed in New York City in various federal and state censuses from 1905 to 1940.5,7,8,9,10 In 1905, 1910, 1925, and 1940 she was living with Rose McGregor, who was listed as the head of the household. Rose was listed as a widow in 1910, and as single in 1940. Lillie was listed as Rose's partner in 1905 and 1940, friend in 1910, and cousin in 1925. In 1920 Lillie was on her own as the head of the household, with one boarder. She was listed with a music-related occupation from 1905 to 1920, but was working in real estate in 1925.

Albert Ellery Berg was born on 23 September 1855 in New York, New York.2,3 He married Annie Agnes Campbell, daughter of Matthew Campbell and Mary Carroll, in 1909 in New Jersey.4,5 He died on 6 May 1919 at the House of Calvary in the Bronx, Bronx Co., New York (his obituary says 7 May, at home at 1445 Cromwell Ave.), at age 63 from stomach cancer.6,1 He was buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Kisco, Westchester Co., New York.7
He was born with the surname Berg, and his marriage record and obituary use that spelling2,8,1, but he used the surname Bergh most of his adult life.9,10,11
After receiving his education in France and Germany, in 1880 he began his career as a writer and editor, joining the editorial staff at Harper Bros. in New York City.1 He was then living there as one of 17 boarders in the house of M. Covert Debevoise, and listed in the census with the occupation journalist.9 He was later managing editor of the musical publication The Keystone, served on the editorial staff of the New York Dramatic Mirror for eleven years, was managing editor of The Columbian and Continental magazines, and edited several books.1 He also worked in real estate for a time; in the 1910 census his occupation is listed as real estate agent.10 He was an active member of the New York Press Club, serving as secretary for five years.1
He has not been found in the 1900 census, but in 1910 he and his wife Annie are listed in the Bronx, New York City. Listed with them are Annie's children from her first marriage Robert, Albert, Harold, and William Harrison, listed as Albert's stepsons, and Albert and Annie's daughter Helen. They also had a servant, Bridget Corcoran, listed as a nurse.10 They are again listed in New York City in the 1915 state census, with the children Robert, Albert, Harold, and William listed as Albert's sons, with the surname Bergh.11

Walter Gilman Berg (1858-1908). From "Proceedings of the Ninth Annual Convention of the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance of Way Association," Vol. 9 (Washington, D.C.: Committee on Publications, 1908), p. ii.
Walter Gilman Berg was born on 12 January 1858 in New York, New York.3,4,2 He married first Dora Hyacinth Henry, daughter of Charles W. Henry and Susie Virginia Lee, on 24 March 1882.2,5,6 He married second Ruby Burke, daughter of Samuel Burke and Alice Moncure, on 28 February 1893 at her parents' home in Burkeville, Nottoway Co., Virginia.7,8,2 He died suddenly on 12 May 1908 at his home, 261 W. 52nd St., in Manhattan, New York, at age 50 from "acute indigestion."9,1 He was buried at Wards Chapel Cemetery in Jennings Ordinary, Nottoway Co., Virginia.10
His parents moved the family to Europe around 1867, when he was nine years old4, and he was educated in France and Germany.1 He graduated in 1878 from the Royal Polytechnic Institute in Stuttgart, Germany, with a degree in civil engineering.1
Returning to the U.S., he went to work for the Delaware Bridge Co. in 1878, and the next year joined the newly-formed Richmond and Alleghany Railroad, headquartered in Richmond, Henrico Co., Virginia.1 He may be the Walter Berg listed in Richmond in the 1880 census as a boarder in the home of the lawyer Robert Howard, with the occupation clerk.11 He moved to the East Tennessee, Virginia, and Georgia Railroad in 1882, then joined the Lehigh Valley Railroad the following year, where he remained the rest of his life, and was appointed chief engineer in 1900.1
He was a member of several professional organizations, a former president of the Association of Railroad Superintendents of Bridges and Buildings, and at the time of his death was president of the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance of Way Association. He was also the author of several papers and books.1
He and his wife Ruby are listed at 261 W. 52nd St. in Manhattan, New York Co., New York, in the 1900 census, along with their son Walter Jr. They had a cook, Nellie Gordon, and a nurse, Nellie Dooner.12 In 1905, a few months after Ruby's death, he and his children Walter and Moncure were listed at the same address in the 1905 state census. Ruby's mother Alice Burke was living with them, along with a maid, Jane Winfrey, and a cook, Fannie Downs.13
His will was dated 6 July 1906, and proved in court in New York Co., New York, on 28 May 1908. He left "the old homestead property known as the 'Wellman Grange'" in Piermont, New Hampshire, to his mother Helen of New York City. He also canceled any debts owed by her to him. He left the property known as the "Old Homestead" at Jennings Ordinary in Nottoway Co., Vitginia, that had been left to him by his deceased wife Ruby, to his son Walter. If Walter were to die before age 21 (and he did), the property was to go to his son Moncure. The rest of his property was to be held in trust for his sons Walter and Moncure.
He appointed his brother-in-law Moncure Burke of Washington, D.C., Robert Valentine, and Phillip H. DeWitt as executors, giving them authority to sell his real estate and personal property. He directed that any "distinctly personal" property (clothing, jewelery, pictures, etc.), that they felt should not be sold, should be distributed among those "as I would probably have desired if living." He also asked that, if possible, his New York City home at 261 W. 52nd St. and its contents not be sold, but kept "as the home of my children ... on account of the associations of said home with their childhood and with their deceased mother and myself." Moncure Burke was also appointed guardian of his children while they were minors, and he asked that he live with his children.14
