On 22 November 1886 in Buffalo, Erie Co., New York, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, Co. F, 19th Infantry, for a term of five years. He apparently had second thoughts, however. With the help of a Mr. Lagan from New Orleans, he received his discharge a little over a year later, on 7 February 1888 at Fort McIntosh in Laredo, Webb Co., Texas. A newspaper article about his release says that he had joined "in a fit of desperation" after "finding himself in the North in straitened circumstances."5,8
In 1900 he and his first wife Josephine were living with her mother in Bayonne, Hudson Co., New Jersey.9 They moved to St. Louis, Missouri, in November 1903, where he had "accepted a responsible position."10 They were living in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana, in 191511, and they are listed in Montville, New London Co., Connecticut, in the 1920 census.3 They moved to Vineland, Cumberland Co., New Jersey, about 1922.12
He and his second wife Louella are listed in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana, in the 1930 census. Louella's sister Lelia was then living with them.13
He was working as a bookkeeper when he joined the Army in 18865, as a salesman in 19009, as a box shop supervisor in 19203, as a poultryman from 1922 to 192812, and as an airways salesman in 1930.13

He and his wife Elizabeth are listed in Buffalo, Erie Co., New York, in the 1900 census5, in Mount Vernon, Westchester Co., New York, in the 1905 state census7, and in Bayonne, Hudson Co., New Jersey, in the 1910 census.8 Living with them in 1905 was Peter R. Dimler, age 6, listed as George's adopted son. He's also with them in 1910, as Roy, age 10, listed as a nephew.
He was a civil engineer5,8, and president and treasurer of his own firm, The Morse Company, contractors and builders.9 They constructed a number of buildings in the Bayonne area, including several schools and the Odd Fellows building.10
He went missing in 1913. He left home on 29 August on a business trip to Washington D.C., but never arrived. His brother Lemuel traveled there to look for him, and police in several cities were contacted. Newspapers reported that his business was in good financial condition, and it was feared that he was the victim of an accident or foul play.10,4
It was later reported that before leaving he bought a large amount of his favorite cigarettes and tobacco, and that an old hat he had taken with him was returned to his wife by a New York department store, where he had purchased a new one. It was also rumored that his finances were "in a muddle." Although his credit was reportedly excellent, George H. Mettam, secretary of the company, was quoted as saying that "he had reason to believe that there were numerous claims against the concern which might seriously embarrass it."11,9
On 23 September 1913 a receiver was appointed for the Morse Company, after involuntary bankruptcy proceedings were initiated by creditors of the company. Creditors alleged that the company gave valuable assets to George F. Morse "with fraudulent intent." They valued the company's assets at $25,000 in buildings and land in Bayonne and Caldwell.12

He and his wife Gladys are listed in Newark, Essex Co., New Jersey, in the 1920 census.8 They moved to East Orange, Essex Co., New Jersey, about 1921.9
He was working as a traveling salesman for Eleus & Sellom when he registered for the World War I draft on 12 September 19181, but no occupation is listed for him in the 1920 census.8 His draft registrtation notes that he had a bad heart, and he died from heart disease in 1925, so perhaps by 1920 he was unable to work.

She and her first husband Robert are listed in Manhattan, New York, New York Co., New York, in the 1900 federal census and the 1905 state census. Their son Robert was with them in 1900, along with their sons Albert, Harold, and William in 1905. Also with them in 1905 was a servant, Bridget Corcoran, age 68.5,6
She and her second husband Albert are listed in the Bronx, New York City, in the 1910 census. Listed with them are Annie's children from her first marriage Robert, Albert, Harold, and William Harrison, listed as Albert's stepsons, and Albert and Annie's daughter Helen. Bridget Corcoran, who was listed with Annie and her first husband as a servant in 1905, was still there, with the occupation nurse.7 They are again listed in New York City in the 1915 state census, with the children Robert, Albert, Harold, and William listed as Albert's sons, with the surname Bergh.8
In 1920, after Albert's death, she is listed at 1433 Cromwell Ave. in the Bronx with her children Albert, Harold, William, and Helen, now all with the surname Harrison. Also listed as her daughter is Elsie Harrison, age 8. It's unclear who this is. She may actually be Elsie Bergh, another daughter from Annie's marriage to Albert Bergh, but she is not listed with them in the 1915 state census.9,10
She and her third husband Orlando are listed in the Bronx, New York, in the 1925 state census and the 1930 federal census. Listed with them in 1925, as Orlando's daughter, is Helen Bergh, age 15, Annie's daughter from her previous marriage.11,12

Harrison, who was born in January 1865, and too old to be their son Robert Harrison, who was born about 1905.
