In 1695 Henry Chandler and his brother Joseph Chandler were granted the right to build a sawmill on the Cochickewick River by the town of Andover, Essex Co., Massachusetts.1 In the Andover records, he is called a Corporal in 1709, and Ensign in 1719.1 In Andover he served as tythingman in 1709-1711, 1721, and 1722, and highway surveyor in 1719 and 1720.1
In January 1723 he bought 1700 acres on the Connecticut River in the northwest part of Enfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut, for £1700.1 He and his family moved there in the spring of 1723, where he stayed till his death.1

His widow Hannah declined administration of his estate, and his brother Samuel was appointed administrator on 13 May 1735. The estate was valued at £472 17s 7d. His widow received £102 12s 4d (1/3 of the estate) for life, plus £20 17s 8d for expenses; his oldest son Henry received £68 8s 10d; his other four children received £34 4s 5d each; and there was a "desperate debt" of 40s.2

He was appointed administrator of his brother Henry's estate on 13 May 1735 when Henry's widow Hannah declined the position.2 He served as assessor in Enfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut, in 1740, mod. in 1744, and selectman in 1745 and 1752.3 On 19 May 1747 he was appointed guardian of his brother Henry's sons Stephen and Solomon.2
