Before his marriage he bought two tracts of land in Union Co., Oregon, from the federal government. On 28 January 1904 he was issued a patent for 159.47 acres8, and on 29 December 1904 he was issued a patent for 32.71 acres.9 On 30 March 1911 his wife Hattie was issued a patent for 40 acres she had purchased in Union Co.10, and on 22 April 1927 he was issued a patent for another 160 acres he had purchased in Union Co.11
He and Hattie are listed in Union Co. in the censuses from 1910 to 1930, in North Elgin in 1910, in Palmer in 1920, and in Elgin in 1930.12,13,14

She and her first husband George were living in La Grande, Union Co., Oregon, in 1900.3
On 30 March 1911, after her marriage to her second husband Norman Swikert, she was issued a land patent from the federal government for 40 acres she had purchased in Union Co.9, and on 22 April 1927 Norman was issued a patent for another 160 acres he had purchased in Union Co.10
She and Norman are listed in Union Co. in the censuses from 1910 to 1930, in North Elgin in 1910, in Palmer in 1920, and in Elgin in 1930.5,11,12

She and her first husband George were living in Ferndale, Umatilla Co., Oregon, in 1910.7 By 1920 they had moved to Smith Mountain, Wallowa Co., Oregon.8 In 1930, after her first husband's death, Minnie was living and working as a cook in the household of R. W. Jack in Linden, Latah Co., Idaho. Her sons George and Everett were also living there, with George working as a truck driver and Everett as a laborer.9
