James Hemingway was born on 23 July 1801 in New Jersey.1 He was the son of James Hemingway and Elizabeth Armstrong.1 James Hemingway married Hope Malmsbury, daughter of Benjamin Malmsbury and Jane Cattell, in 1823 in Columbiana County, Ohio.1 James Hemingway died on 28 January 1893 in Missouri at age 91.1
James's father James Hemingway died on 15 July 1822 in Mahoning County, Ohio.1 James Hemingway became the father of Jane M. Hemingway on 30 April 1824.1 James's mother Elizabeth Armstrong died on 15 January 1837 in Springfield, Mahoning County, Ohio.1 James's daughter was married at wedding of Jane M. Hemingway and Oliver Burdg on 29 April 1846.1 James Hemingway became a widower with the death of his wife, Hope Malmsbury on 10 May 1865 near West Branch, Iowa, at age 60.1 James's daughter Jane M. Hemingway died on 5 April 1890.1
