He married, firstly, Lady Margaret Stewart, daughter of John Stewart, 3rd Earl of Atholl and Grizel Rattray, before 19 February 1539. He married, secondly, Lady Janet Leslie, daughter of George Leslie, 4th Earl of Rothes, before 8 March 1557/58. He died on 3 June 1585, having by her had, with seven daughters (including Barbara, married Colin Cam (the one-eyed) Mackenzie of Kintail issue.

    Baillie (steward) Kinloss Abbey.3 On 25 October 1577 granted by charter the Parkhill estate, Fifeshire, following its forfeiture by John Leslie.

    He had five other daughters.4 On 17 December 1591 died ), daughter of 4th Earl of Rothes (qv) and widow of David Crichton of Waughton.6

    At lower Springfield, Ant. Co., on Sunday, Sept. 3rd, 1916, DOUGALD ARCHY, beloved son of John and Catherine McPherson, of that place. The deceased, who was 33 years of age, had for fourteen years in the West. A slight injury sustained at work which he did not consider serious slowly developed into what proved to be a terrible malady and yielded not to treatment of specialists East and West. For the past fourteen months he patiently suffered intense pain, coming back to the paternal home last Christmas to die. Besides his parents he is survived by five brothers and two sisters at home, the rest residing in different parts of the West. His patience under trying affliction, as well his earnest preparation for the life beyond, will serve as an edifying spiritual example, not only to the family, but to the fond neighbors who learned to love him from boyhood. May his soul rest in peace.5

    Springfield, Antigonish County

    At Springfield, Ant. Co., on Thursday morning, March 11th, 1909, Roderick Joseph, beloved son of John McPherson (Ban), of that place. Though only twenty years of age, he had learned the trade of bricklaying, and passed the last two years in San Francisco, Cal. Last fall he returned to his native home here, in failing health, with the hope of recuperating, but alas, despite medical treatment and kind attendance of fond parents, death claimed a submissive victim. Besides his parents, three sisters and seven brothers, four of whom are in Alaska are left to mourn the early demise of an affectionate brother and dutiful son. Frequent reception of the sacraments, and the final consolations of the Church shortly before the end, made his death edifying and happy. On Saturday morning, the 13th, after a Requiem High Mass, the interment took place in South River Cemetery. May his soul rest in peace.5

    At Springfield, July 15th, after an illness of four days, and fortified by the last rites of Holy Church, Augustine McPherson, aged 15 years. Deceased was son of John H. McPherson. He leaves a father and mother, three sisters and six brothers to mourn the loss of a kind son and brother. After Requiem High Mass, at St. Andrews Church his remains were conveyed to South River Cemetery. May his soul rest in peace.4

    Funeral services for the late James MacPherson, 84, of the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, and formerly of Springfield, Antigonish County, were held Saturday in St. Andrew’s Church, St. Andrews, with Rev. Lawrence Gillis officiating.
    Mr. MacPherson died on February 17 at the Nursing Home.
    Pallbearers were Allan Joseph Cameron, Ambrose Bowles, Buddy MacDonald, William C. DeWolfe, Angus A, MacDonald and Hugh Joseph MacDonald. Burial will be in the South River Cemetery in the spring.
    Born in Lower Springfield, Antigonish County, he was a son of the late John B. (Ban) and Catherine (MacFarlane) MacPherson.
    He was a retired farmer and lineman.
    He was the last surviving member of his immediate family of 14, which included four daughters and ten sons. His brother John Angus was killed overseas during World War I and is buried in Surrey, England.
    He is survived by several nieces and nephews.4
