  1. E-mail message, Bruce Paulson to RCJ, 8 July 2021, Date: 8 JUL 2021, Henry married my great-aunt Winona Lewis in 1902 while still married to Jessie, his 1st wife. I've never learned if Jessie was in a Whatcom County nursing home (sanitarium) in 1902? Just two years earlier Jessie was in Henry's home for the 1900 Fed Cen. Same time, her widowed mom is living not far away in Linden with druggist-son/brother/ Edward (1860-1944). Anyway, Jessie's mother had moved to Whatcom County by the time Henry married my aunt Nona; so I assume Jessie has some family nearby for support. By abt 1916, Winona had left Henry. So a few years later he married her mother. Her mother was my maternal great-grandmother.

NoteSherman family lore has it that Jack Sherman and his son Alvin had contributed "money and other items" to support the establishment of the State of Israel. The recipient of these contributions was said to have been "a woman in Yonkers." The "other items" were arms.

Adele Grantz was the woman in Yonkers. She and her husband William received contributions from other Zionist members of the family, including the Shermans. As a businessman, William Grantz had financial facilities which enabled him to freely direct monies. Open contributions were made to Kibbutz Negba for, among other things, an ambulance, which the Grantzes delivered themselves. Funds were also quietly sent to an associate of Menachem Begin, the head of the Irgun. The Irgun was more violent and radical than Haganah, which was the larger Jewish Zionist group in Palestine. The Shermans' contributions to Irgun were almost certainly used for arms.

Menachem Begin became the sixth Prime Minister of Israel.17,18
