He was named in his father's will, dated 5 June 1733 and proved 29 Jun 1733, and was to receive his father's house, all his land in Scituate, Warwick, and elsewhere, and a feather bed (but his mother was to have them until he came of age, as well as use of the kitchen and bedroom while a widow).1,3
He was a deputy to the Rhode Island General Assembly from 1757 to 1759 and 1780 to 1787, serving as speaker of the House in 1787. He resigned his seat in the General Assembly in 1788 to become chief justice of the Rhode Island Supreme Court, where he served until 1791.2
His will was dated 11 December 1788, and proved 27 June 1797. The executors were his wife Theodosia and his grandson Othneil Gorton Wightman.2
He and Theodosia had the following known children: Theodosia (b 3 June 1736, d young), Zilpha (b February 1737), Marcy, Mary.2

He was a mariner.1 He and his wife Frances lived in Warwick, Providence Co., Rhode Island.1 They had the following known children: Caleb (b 15 July 1734), Mary (b 21 February 1736), James (b 7 July 1737), Barbara (b 24 July 1738).1

On 5 May 1746 his father deeded him 11 acres and 80 rods of land in Warwick, Providence Co., Rhode Island.3 On 3 June 1758, in Cranston, Providence Co., Rhode Island, he and his wife Mary along with their unmarried daughters Phebe and Eunice, deeded "all their rights of dower and power of thirds" to James Greene.2 He was living in Coventry, Kent Co., Rhode Island, in 1765.2

On 15 September 1731 his father sold to him the northern part of his grandfather Roger Burlingham's original homestead.1 On 14 February 1738 he sold this land to his cousin Israel Gorton.2
He was a private in Capt. Pike's Command at Louisburg, Massachusetts, in 1745. He made Ensign in 1745, and Captain in 1747.2 On 11 March 1746 (11 March 1747 according to Jacox) he and his wife Alice, along with his father, deeded land in Mashantatack to James Sweet of Coventry, Rhode Island.1,5
His will was dated 2 May 1772 in West Greenwich, Kent Co., Rhode Island.2

She was a gg-granddaughter of the first John Greene of Wickford, Rhode Island. See the Nelson Burlingame manuscript for details.2 On 11 March 1746 (11 March 1747 according to Jacox) she and her husband William Burlingame, along with her husband's father, deeded land in Mashantatack to James Sweet of Coventry, Rhode Island.3,4

In 1711 a claim was made on his estate for his refusal to serve in Queen Anne's expedition against Canada.1 He served as deputy to the General Assembly in 1711 and 1723.1 He was one of the overseers of his father-in-law Roger Burlingham's will, dated 28 November 1715 and proved 13 September 1718.5,6
His own will was dated 8 April 1725 in Providence, Providence Co., Rhode Island. A codicil was made 29 January 1727, and his will was proved 6 March 1727. He left half of his movable estate to his wife Elizabeth, to raise the children to read and write. He left the other half to his children, who were also to receive his wife's half upon her death. The executors were his wife Elizabeth and son John (Jonathan?).1

He was a weaver according to his marriage record, but the Burlingame Manuscript says currier.3,1 He served as deputy from Providence to the General Assembly in 1722, 1723, 1725, 1728, 1730, and 1734, as a member of the town council in 1725 and 1726, and as town treasurer in 1722.1
His will was proved 26 September 1752. The executors were his daughter Esther, and son-in-law Daniel Eddy.1
