He sometimes went by his middle name Clinton.2 After their marriage he and his wife Martha lived with her parents in South Newbury, Geauga Co., Ohio.2
He served during the Civil War in Company B of the 41st. Regiment of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry, enlisting on 20 August 1861 for three years. The Regiment was formed at Camp Wood in Cleveland, Ohio, starting August 26, and officially mustered in on October 31. They went to Camp Dennison, Ohio, on November 6, to Gallipolis, Ohio, on November 16, then to Louisville, Kentucky, and to duty at Camp Wickliffe in Hodgenville, Larue Co., Kentucky.7,8,6

- [S1951] Ohio Roster Commission, Official Roster of the Soldiers of the State of Ohio in the War of the Rebellion, 1861-1866, Vol. 4, pp. 177,743. The Official roster ... mistakenly lists his name as David C. Morton. It lists two men with the surname Morton in Company B of the 41st. Regiment, David C. Morton and Delos Morton. The online Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System (http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/) also lists two Mortons in Company B, DeWitt C. and Delos. Since the CWSS records were compiled directly from the General Index Cards in the Compiled Military Service Records at the National Archives, and DeWitt Morton's cemetery marker includes the inscription "Co. B 41 Reg. OVI," it's likely that the listing of his given name as David in the Official roster ... is an error.
