     Israel Gorton was born about 1693 in Warwick, Rhode Island.1 He married Freelove Burlingame, daughter of Thomas Burlingame and Martha Lippitt, in 1720, according to the Nelson Burlingame manuscript. However, Doherty and Ghastin both say she married Thomas Gorton.1,2,3 He died in October 1778 in Cranston, Providence Co., Rhode Island.1
     In his father's will, dated 5 June 1733 and proved 29 Jun 1733, Israel Gorton was left the land at Mashantatack where he was then living. He and his brother John were also left an old orchard and the rest of their father's land at Mashantatack, to be divided equally.4,5 On 9 August 1733 he and John filed a partition deed, in which each reserved the right to bury in the old burial grounds on the homestead farm. The burial grounds were opposite the ore beds at Cranston, Providence Co., Rhode Island.1
     On 14 February 1738 he bought a tract of land in Cranston, Providence Co., Rhode Island, from his cousin William Burlingame, that had been part of the original homestead of the immigrant Roger Burlingham.6 On 13 May 1752 he bought another part of the original homestead from Elisha Baker.1
     He served as captain of the militia in Cranston.1
     In his will, dated 4 July 1774 and proved 7 November 1778, he left all his real estate to his son, Israel Jr.1

     He and his brothers Samuel, Peter, Thomas, Moses, and Steven all were deeded land by their father Thomas.1,6
     In 1744 he was an ensign in the Providence militia., and he marched in the Indian alarm of August 1757.3,7
     He was named in his father's will, dated 5 June 1756 and proved 7 October 1758, and was left 5s.5,1
     His own will was dated 8 October 1784. The witnesses were Philip Potter and Phebe Potter. It was proved at Voluntown, Connecticut, on 7 September 1790, with his son Nathan as executor. He left one shilling each to his sons Israel and Eleazer and daughters Margaret and Lillis, his indoor movable estate to his daughter Mary, and his livestock, outdoor movable estate, and farming equipment to his son Nathan.3

     He was Justice of the Peace in Cranston in 1769 and 1770; was appointed on 24 September 1774, with Peter Burlingame, Capt. Samuel Gorton, and Peter Sprague, to collect fat cattle to donate to the committee in Boston, as part of Cranston's effort to help oppose the British; and was chosen as part of a committee of inspection for Cranston, subject to the direction of Congress, on 13 March 1775.2
     He was executor of his father's will, dated 6 May 1766 and proved in 1770.1
     He is listed in the census of 1774 in Cranston, and his household had two males over 16, two males under 16, four females over 16, and four females under 16.2 He is listed in the census of 1790 in North Kingston, Washington Co., Rhode Island, with two males over 16, two males under 16, and five females.2

     On 4 August 1777 Abraham Chase was appointed by the Cranston Town Council as one of the administrators of the estate of his father-in-law John Gorton, who had died intestate.4

     Mary Gorton was born in 1723 in Cranston, Providence Co., Rhode Island.1 She married Abraham Chase, son of Joseph Chase and Abigail Tucker, on 5 June 1743 (the Burlingame Manuscript says 5 June 1742) in Providence, Providence Co., Rhode Island.2,1
     She and Abraham had the following known children: Hannah (b 21 February 1745), Abraham (b 26 December 1748, d 11 August 1791), Mercy (b 7 May 1751, d 26 January 1846), Sarah (b 20 March 1755), Joseph (b 28 September 1757), Lowry (b 23 November 1759), Gorton (b 24 October 1761), Charlotte (b 1 August 1763), David (b 19 February 1766).1

     John Gorton was born in 1698.2 He married Hannah (?).1 He died in July 1777 (or possibly 1 August 1777) in Papaquinapaug (now Cranston), Providence Co., Rhode Island.3 He was buried at the old family burial grounds in Cranston, Providence Co., Rhode Island.4
     In his father's will, dated 5 June 1733 and proved 29 Jun 1733, he was left the west end of the land at Mashantatack where he was then living. He and his brother Israel also received an old orchard and the rest of their father's land at Mashantatack, to be divided equally.2,5 On 9 August 1733 he and his brother Israel filed a partition deed, in which each reserved the right to bury in the old burial grounds on the homestead farm. The burial grounds were opposite the ore beds at Cranston, Providence Co., Rhode Island.6
     He died intestate and on 4 August 1777 his son-in-law Abraham Chase and Capt. Edward Knight were appointed by the Cranston Town Council to settle his estate.4
