In November 1732 she claimed in court that James Calkins was the father of her son, born 11 March 1732, who she named James Calkins. He denied the allegation, and the court found in his favor.1

On 21 June 1757, eighteen years after his wife Elizabeth's death, he deeded forty acres of land, with a house, to his wife's son James Calkins "for the love I bare him."1

He graduated from Yale in New Haven, Hew Haven Co., Connecticut, in 17251 and later became a minister.1
In November 1732 he was charged in court by Elizabeth Curtice as being the father of her son, born 11 March 1732, who she had named James Calkins. He denied the charge, and the court found in his favor.1
James Calkins had three known children, James (b 19 December 1741), Betty (b 21 June 1744), and Abigail (d at age 10). He may have also had an earlier child, Ann, born out of wedlock 20 January 1733/34.1

In 1751 Samuel Curtice and his wife Elizabeth moved to Falls Village, Litchfield Co., Connecticut, where he had received a half-acre lot and house from John Horsford.2 He was a blacksmith, with a forge along the Hollenbeck River.2

On 6 May 1740, after their father's death, Naniad Curtice chose his brother Caleb Curtice as his guardian.2 On 27 March 1747 he sold land in Sharon, Connecticut, to Samuel Curtice.2 He moved to Cornwall Precinct, Orange Co., New York.2
He was a volunteer in Capt. David Martin's Company in 17582, and later, on 2 April 1759, he enlisted in Capt. James Howell's Company in Goshen, Orange Co., New York.2
