He was a wheelwright in Fressingfield, co. Suffolk, England.1
His will was dated 20 February 1610/11 and proved on 28 February 1610/11 ("the last of February"). His wife Margery was left his house for her use during her lifetime, along with half the fruit on his property, and rights to the use of the property for obtaining water, drying linen, storing wood, planting seeds and herbs, and keeping swine and fowls. The rest of his property was left to his son Thomas, who was named executor, for "all the term of years which I have therein." Thomas was left his shop, including wood and tools, and the associated "yards, gardens, and orchards," on the condition that he pay his (the testator's) daughter Elizabeth £3 6s 8d at Christmas 1619. He left his son Phineas £4 to be paid at Christmas 1621, his son John £4 at Christmas 1624, and his daughter Mary £3 6s 8d at Christmas 1627. His son John was also allowed to remove young pear and apple trees that he had planted, within four years. Whatever remained was left to his wife Margery for use during her lifetime, after which it was to be divided equally between his children.4

He was a wheelwright.1 He was living in Fressingfield, co. Suffolk, England, by 1554, when his son Richard was baptized there.1 He is said to have fled for religious reasons "in Q. Maries dayes" (i.e., 1553-1558), probably soon after his son Eleazar was baptized on 31 May 1556, and ended up at St. James, South Elmham, co. Suffolk.1
His will was dated 10 April 1590, and proved in Metfield, co. Suffolk, on 28 July 1602. To his son William he left his tenement named Hoves, and William was to pay £18 in installments to his daughter Elizabeth Barnard. He left his freehold lands to his son Eleazar and his wife Elizabeth, under the condition that they pay 2 1/2 d to his son William each year for life. They were also to pay £8 to his son Thomas; if they failed, the freehold lands were to pass to Thomas. After the death of Eleazar and Elizabeth (or of Thomas, if he were the tenant), the freehold lands were to go to William, who was then to pay Thomas £3. He left 10s to the poor of St. James parish, and 10s to other poor people to be determined by his executors. He left 40s to be divided equally among his grandchildren, and 30s to the children of his stepson Nicholas Barbor (from his wife Sibilla's first marriage). His sons Geoffrey and Eleazar were named executors, and left 6s 8d each. The remainder of his estate was to be divided equally among his children.4

Sibilla had at least two brothers and a sister. During the reign of Queen Mary (1553-1558) she and her sister Isabella were in "great danger" because of their religion, and Isabella was imprisoned at Norwich Castle. She was eventually freed through the influence of her brothers.1,2

According to the Fiske genealogy, she and her husband Robert Barnard were the grandparents, through one of their daughters, of John Locke (1632-1704), the famous English Philosopher and physician. Other sources, however, say that Locke's mother was Agnes Keene.2,3
