On 2 April 1674 Thomas Tharp acquired 200 acres of land on Langford Cay (now Langford Creek) in Kent Co., Maryland, from Jacob Johnson and his wife Hannah, in exchange for 4300 pounds of tobacco. Part of Langford Creek is bounded by Quaker Neck, and the author of the Tharp genealogy believes this land was on Quaker Neck.1
His will was dated 10 November 1685 and proved on 21 November 1686. He left all of his land to his son William, unless he were to die before becoming of age, in which case it was to go to his daughter Elizabeth. William also received two cows and two calves. If both William and Elizabeth were to die without heirs, the land was to go to his friend Robert Erick, who was named executor, and guardian of William and Elizabeth. He left one shilling each to his children Thomas and Mary. He dispossessed his "rebellious wife Elizabeth ... because she is gone away in another Country with James Carle and have carried a great parte of my goods along with her and lives in adultery with him."1

He came to New England with his parents by 1641.1 He was admitted to the church in Salem, Essex Co., Massachusetts, on 2 July 16411 and became a freeman on 18 May 1642.1 He soon moved to Newbury, Essex Co., then to Wenham, Essex Co.1, where he was received into the church in 1644.1 Shortly afterwards he moved to Haverhill, Norfolk Co. (now Essex Co.), Massachusetts, where he was a proprietor (i.e., original purchaser or grantee of land) in 1646, and later received several other grants of land.1,3 In Haverhill he served as a selectman several times.3 On 13 February 1647 he was fined for being absent from the town meeting.3
On 22 November 1659 he and his wife Anne (Hannah) sold a house with a nine-acre lot in Haverhill, plus five acres of planting land and four acres of meadow, to Rev. John Ward for £100.3
After several years in Haverhill, and probably before 1661 as his name does not appear in a general division of land in Haverhill that year, he moved to Groton, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts.1 He received various land grants in Groton3, and also served as selectman.3
His will was dated 14 June 1689 and proved on 26 July 1689 in Cambridge, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts. He left legacies to his children James, John, Samuel, Thomas, and Hannah (probably Ann).1,3

He came to New England with his parents by 1641.1 He became a carpenter in Wenham, Essex Co., Massachusetts.3 He was made a freeman in 1649, served as constable in 1654, and was representative in 1669 and 1681.3
On 7 April 1676 he was listed as a member of the militia company commanded by Capt. William Turner during King Philip's War. However, his name is listed as "John ffiske, left wounded by Capt. Lathroppe." The meaning of that is unclear. If he was with Turner's Co. a little over a month later, on 19 May, he would have taken part in the Battle of Turner's Falls, also known as the Peskeompscut massacre. His name does not appear in a 1736 list of those who participated in the battle, and as compensation were awarded land in the area where the fight took place, but that list may be incomplete.5
In any case, on 19 May 1676 Turner led a group of about 150-180 volunteers in a surprise early-morning attack against an undefended Indian fishing camp at Peskeompscut on the Connecticut River, in retaliation for raids against colonial settlers. An estimated 100-200 Indians died, many shot while asleep in their wigwams, and others when they were swept over the falls trying to escape. Only one of the militia men was killed in the attack itself.
However, after the attack it is said that the militia retreated in a panic after a captive English boy found in one of the wigwams told them that King Philip himself would soon arrive with a thousand Indians. In any case, other Indians pursued the militia during their retreat, killing about 40, including Capt. Turner.3,6
On 18 March 1684 (sic; this date is after his death), the General Court issued the following order: "In answer to the petition of John Fisk, of Wenham, a sore wounded soldier in the late Indian War, and thereby incapacitated to get his living, humbly desiring the favor of this honored General Court ... to grant him a license to keep a public house of entertainment, therewith freedom from county rates, and also to sell drink free from imposts and excises." The Court granted his petition.3
On 10 November 1682 he and his wife Remember deeded about twenty acres of land in Wenham to their son Samuel on the occasion of his marriage to Elizabeth Whipple.3
He died intestate, and his estate, valued at £372, was divided among his wife Remember and children John, Samuel, Noah, Waite, Elizabeth, and Remember.3

He was made a freeman in 1680, and again in March 1694 while living elsewhere.2 On 10 November 1682 his father John deeded about twenty acres of land in Wenham, Essex Co., Massachusetts, to him on the occasion of his marriage to Elizabeth Whipple.1
The Fiske genealogy says that he was dismissed from the church in Wenham to the one in Milford, New Haven Co., Connecticut, on 6 February 1703. Obviously, either this date or his death date is wrong, or this was a different Samuel Fiske.2
He and Elizabeth had one known child, Increase (b 18 January 1700).2
