John White was baptized on 7 March 1602 in the "Old Church" in South Petherton, Somerset co., England.3 He married Joan West, daughter of Richard West and Maudlin Staple, on 28 May 1627 in Drayton, Somerset co., England.3 He died between 10 March 1672/73, when his will was made, and 28 May 1673, when it was proved.1
He and his wife Joan and their family immigrated to New England in April 1639.3 They settled in Salem, Massachusetts, by August 1639, when he was formally received as a resident3 and received a grant of 60 acres of land.1 On 15 February 1642 he was granted 6 acres of meadow, plus 4 more to be laid out, and 40 acres of upland in Wenham, Massachusetts.1 He was granted 4 more acres of meadow in Wenham on 30 January 1643.1 He probably never lived in Salem itself, but instead in Wenham, which was under Salem jurisdiction until 1648.1
He moved to Lancaster, Middlesex Co. (now Worcester Co.), Massachusetts, sometime before 1 May 1653, when he and others agreed on rules for distributing meadow lands. He was alloted 20 acres.1 On 20 November 1653 he signed a petition for the construction of a corn mill in Lancaster.1 He was alloted land "proportioned to £380:06:02" in 1654, 20 lots in 1655, 7 acres near the river on 26 June 1658, and lot number 33 on 5 February 1659.1
His will was dated 10 March 1672/73 in Lancaster, and proved on 28 May 1673. His daughter Hannah was left 100 acres of upland, part near the Ealsabet River and part at Wataquadoke, with the common rights due for a £100 estate. The rest of his lands and buildings in Lancaster were left to Hannah and his son Josiah. His daughter-in-law Ruth White, widow of his son Thomas, received the use of half of his farm in Wenham for as long as she remained unmarried. The other half was to go to her son Thomas at age 21. At Ruth's death, or when she remarried, her half was to go to her daughters. His married daughters Joanna, Elizabeth, Mary, and Sarah, having already received portions of his estate, were left 20s each. His son Josiah was named executor, and was to receive what remained of his moveables after his debts were paid.1
The inventory of his estate was presented in court on 17 June 1673, and totaled £389 11s 10d, including real estate in Lancaster valued at £100, and real estate in Wenham valued at £200.1

Mary White was born about 1637 (based on her age of about 73 at death, as listed in the Wethersfield Vital Records) in England.2 She married first Joseph Rowlandson, son of Thomas Rowlandson, in 1656 in Lancaster, Middlesex Co. (now Worcester Co.), Massachusetts.3 She married second Samuel Talcott, son of John Talcott and Dorothy Mott, on 6 August 1679.2 She died on 5 January 1710/11.2
In February 1675/76, during King Philip's War, she and her children, and her sisters Elizabeth Kerley and Hannah Divoll and their children, were staying in a garrison in Lancaster, Middlesex Co. (now Worcester Co.), Massachusetts, while her husband and her sister Elizabeth's husband were away. At sunrise on 10 February the garrison was attacked by Narragansett, Wampanoag, and Nashaway/Nipmuc Indians. Several of the inhabitants were killed, including her sister Elizabeth, brother-in-law John Divoll, and nephews Henry Kerley, John Divoll, and Josiah Divoll. Others were taken captive, including Mary and her children Joseph (age 14), Mary (10), and Sarah (6). Her daughter Sarah was wounded during the raid, and died in her arms on 18 February. She was buried by the Indians in an unmarked shallow grave.
She was separated from her remaining two children, and held for almost three months. During her captivity the group kept moving to avoid the militia. She later described a total of 20 forced marches, which she referred to as "removes," covering about 150 miles. At one point, along the Connecticut River near Northfield, she met with the Indian leader King Philip himself. During her captivity her "master" was the Narragansett chief Quannopin and his wife Weetamoo, the sister-in-law of King Philip. She was apparently treated well by Quannopin, but was sometimes abused by Weetamoo, especially early on.
She was finally released on 2 May 1676 at Redemption Rock in Princeton, Massachusetts, after payment of a £20 ransom raised by Boston women. Her children were freed about a month later.
She wrote a book about her experiences in captivity, first published in Boston in 1682 with the title The Soveraignty & Goodness of God, and later with various titles, including A True History of the Captivity & Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson. The book became a best-seller, was reprinted many times, and is considered a classic example of the Indian captivity genre.4,5,6
After her release she and her husband Joseph lived for a short time in Boston, Suffolk Co., Massachusetts,3 then moved to Wethersfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut, about April 1677.2,3
After her husband's death, officials in Wethersfield granted her an annual pension for as long as she remained a widow2, and on 18 March 1678/79 the town voted to reimburse her for the costs of her husband's funeral.2
She was appointed administrator of her husband's estate on 24 April 1679. (One of those named to assist her was her future second husband Samuel Talcott.) When the estate was finalized on 2 December 1680 she received £90 16s, plus 1/3 of the profits from the real estate for life.2
In her second husband Samuel Talcott's will, dated 22 April 1691 and proved 23 January 1691/92, she was left, for as long as she remained a widow, £10 per year, a room in his house with use of an oven, land for a garden, and two cows.2

Thomas Fiske was baptized on 25 March 1630 (the Fiske genealogy says he was born in 1632) in Wingfield, co. Suffolk, England.1,3 He married first Joan White, daughter of John White and Joan West, in 1651/52 in Wenham, Essex Co., Massachusetts.4,5 He married second Martha (?) on 14 May 1695 in Boston, Suffolk Co., Massachusetts.5 He died on 15 August 1707 in Wenham, Essex Co., Massachusetts, at age 77.6,5,3 He was buried at Wenham Cemetery in Essex Co., Massachusetts.6,5
He came to New England with his parents by 1641.1 He was made a freeman in Wenham, Essex Co., Massachusetts, in 1661.3 He served as town clerk from 1661 to 1694, as representative to the General Court in 1671, 1672, 1678-80, 1686, 1694, and 1697, and as town meeting moderator from 1700 to 1705. He was also in charge of the school, and in 1686 was ordered by the town to begin keeping a record of births, marriages, and deaths.5 He was also Captain of the militia in Wenham.3
He served as foreman of the jury during the Salem witchcraft trials of 1692, including that of Rebecca Nurse. Others serving during the trials included his son Thomas, and William Fiske, his second cousin once removed.7,8,3 Five years later, on 14 January 1697, he and other jurors signed a statement apologizing for their actions during the witchcraft hysteria, and asking for forgiveness.9,10,11
His will was dated 24 April 1705, and proved on 1 September 1707. His wife Martha was to receive £100 within one year of his death, as stipulated in their marriage contract, plus the wood from part of his land. His son Thomas was noted to have previously received his double portion of the estate. His son-in-law John Perkins was left about six acres in "great meadow" for his children, where he was then living. He left £5 to Ann Perkins (daughter of his daughter Mary?), £20 to his grandson Andrew Dodge (son of his daughter Hannah), and £3 each to his grandchildren Phineas, Amos, Martha, and Elizabeth Dodge (children of his daughter Martha). He also left £5 to his church in Boston. His daughters Sarah Dodge and Elizabeth Browne were to have whatever remained. His son Thomas and son-in-law Nathaniel Browne were named executors.3

Phineas Fiske was born about 1600 (the Fiske genealogy says 1610, an obvious error if the dates of his first marriage and children's births are right) in Laxfield, Suffolk Co., England.1,2 He married first Sara Francis on 2 October 1617 in Metfield, Suffolk Co., England.1,3 He married second Elizabeth Eastwick on 4 April 1660 (the Fiske genealogy says 4 June 1660), probably in Wenham, Essex Co., Massachusetts.2,1 He died on 7 April 1673 (the Fiske genealogy says 7 June 1673), probably in Wenham, Essex Co., Massachusetts.1,2

Thomas Fiske was born in 1656 (the White genealogy says 1653) in Wenham, Essex Co., Massachusetts.3,4 He married Rebecca Perkins, daughter of William Perkins, on 3 November 1678 (the White genealogy says 14 June 1676).3,4 He died on 5 February 1723 in Wenham, Essex Co., Massachusetts.3,4,5 He was buried at Wenham Cemetery in Essex Co., Massachusetts.5
He and his wife Rebecca lived in Wenham, Essex Co., Massachusetts.4 He was made a freeman in 16903, and served as town clerk in 1702, 1703, 1705, and 1708, as town meeting moderator in 1710, 1711, and 1720, and as representative to the General Court in 1715.3
He served as a juryman during the Salem witchcraft trials of 1692. Others serving during the trials included his father Thomas Fiske, who was jury foreman, and his second cousin William Fiske.6,7,1 Five years later, on 14 January 1697, he and other jurors signed a statement apologizing for their actions during the witchcraft hysteria, and asking for forgiveness.8,9,10
On 26 May 1693 he bought a house and about five acres of land near the meeting house in Wenham from Rev. Joseph Gervith and his wife Ann.3 Nine years later, on 31 July 1702, he bought seven acres in an area called "the plains" from Samuel Gott and his wife Margaret.3 He expanded his holdings in Wenham on 7 November 1709, when he bought four acres from Tobias Trow3, and again on 22 February 1709 (1709/10?) when he bought seven acres of upland and swamp from Zacheus Goldsmith.3
On 11 February 1711/12 he and his wife Rebecca sold a barn and 22 acres of land in Wenham to Thomas Tarbox, while reserving the right to pass through the land.3
On 23 March 1715 he and Thomas Howe entered into a legal agreement involving real estate to be given to Thomas Howe's son Thomas and to Thomas Fiske's niece Rebekah Perkins, daughter of his sister Mary, who was "brought up by him," upon their marriage. Thomas Howe agreed to "settle so much real estate upon his said son as shall equalize any of my other sons for quantity and quality," and Thomas Fiske was to give the couple 1/3 of his real estate.4 On 16 December 1724, after his death, his widow Rebecca, as executor of his estate, sold the couple the remaining 2/3 of this property.3,4
His will was dated 27 September 1720 and proved on 4 March 1723. He left all of his real estate to his wife Rebecca for her use during her lifetime, after which it was to go to his niece Rebekah (Perkins) Howe.4
The Fiske genealogy, apparently mistakenly, lists the Rebekah who married Thomas Howe, Jr., as the daughter of Thomas Fiske and Rebecca Perkins, not their niece.3
