Family record for Nathaniel Wallis and Nancy, from "Essex / Beverly / Births, marriages, deaths 1653-1890," FHL Film 760604, Image 557 (p. 72). The identification of this Nathaniel's wife as Nancy is tentative. It's based solely on the location of their family record in the Beverly Town Clerk's records, immediately after the family record for his parents Eleazar Wallis and Hannah Woodberry. And it's not clear what Nancy's surname was. Beverly Vital Records lists a marriage for Nathaniel Wallis and Nancy Bailey on 24 November 1811. She's called "Mrs." in their marriage intentions, and "Miss" in their marriage record. However, the death record for their daughter Mary lists her parents as Nathaniel W. Wallis and Nancy Thorndike. No relevant marriage record has been found for Nathaniel Wallis and Nancy Thorndike, or for Nancy Thorndike and a man named Bailey.

At the time of his first marriage in 1848, his residence was given as Penfield, Monroe Co., New York.4 He and his first wife Juliette are listed in Brighton, Livingston Co., Michigan, in the 1850 census, with their daughter Sophia.11
He is listed in Brighton with his second wife Sarah in the 1870 and 1880 censuses. In 1870 they are listed with children Melvin (age 4), Lillie (2), and an unnamed female baby (born November 1869). Their children Melvin and Lillie were still listed with them in 1880, along with another daughter Pearl (4), who was then suffering from the measles.6,7
In the 1850 census he was listed as a farmer.11 He was listed as a butcher in 18706, and in 1873 he and his brother Eli operated a meat market in Brighton on Grand River between Fitch and North.12 In 1880 he was a deputy sheriff in Brighton.7

It was sold to David May, and the Bennetts moved to the Wolhurst estate south of Denver in the early 1900s. See James Bretz, Mansions of Denver, The Vintage Years, 1870-1938 (Boulder, Colorado, Pruett Publishing Co., 2005) for more information about the mansion, and about the Wolhurst estate.

- [S5212] John and Sarah Sowle, and Nina Sowle Cemetery Marker, Brighton Village Cemetery, Brighton, Livingston Co., Michigan. The online picture of the cemetery marker is low-resolution and difficult to read, but clearly shows John Sowle's name and birth/death years. It also includes "Sarah His Wife," but the birth date is unreadable, and the death date is missing. (She moved to Denver, Colorado, after her husband's death, and is buried there.) The marker also includes "Nina 1869-1870."

He and his wife Mary probably lived in Westport, Bristol Co., Massachusetts, from at least 1790 to 1800. Lemuel is listed there in the 1790 census with one male under 16 and one 16 or over, and two females; and in 1800 with two males under 10, one 10-15, and one 45 or over, and one female under 10, one 10-15, and one 26-44.3,4 They moved to New York sometime before 1803 when the will of Benjamin Soule, to which Lemuel was a witness, was probated, and he was then described as being "in N. Y. State."1 He is listed in Galway, Saratoga Co., New York, in the 1810 census, with one male under 10, one 10-15, one 16-25, one 26-44, and one 45 or over, and one female under 10, and one 45 or over.5
He and two others were appointed to inventory the estate of his father-in-law Job Davis, some time after 20 October 1799 when the will was made.1
His will was dated 23 March 1814 in Saratoga Co., New York, and proved on 14 April 1814. In it he names his wife Mary, sons Joseph, John, Abner, and Lemuel, and daughters Mary and Rebecca. His son Joseph and "trusty friend" Pardon Davis were named as executors.1
