James William Neal1,2

     James William Neal was born in September 1867 in Indiana.3 He was married by Eugene R. Mills, Minister, to Lydia Sophia Burlingham, daughter of Nathan Decatur Burlingham and Laura Sophia Kidder, on 15 May 1898 at Rose Villa, the bride's parents' home in West Glendale, Los Angeles Co., California.1,4 He died suddenly from a heart attack on 19 February 1930 at age 62, while at his mine in El Dorado Co., California.5,6
     He worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and at the time of his marriage in 1898 he was superintendent of an experimental station in Jackson, Amador Co., California.4,3 He and Lydia are listed there in the 1900 census, along with his sister Glenna.3 In 1910 he was in charge of an experimental station in Fairbanks, Alaska, and they are listed there, in the Fourth District, in the 1910 census.7 They were living in Norwalk Twp., Los Angeles Co., California, in 1920, along with Lydia's widowed mother Sophia (Kidder) Burlingham, and a nurse, Amelia Montgomery.8 At the time of his death in February 1930 he and Lydia were living in Garden Valley, El Dorado Co., California.6
     He was listed in the 1920 census as a farmer, apparently having left his job with the Department of Agriculture8, and at the time of his death in February 1930 he was part of a mining venture in Garden Valley.6

(?), about 1927.4 She married second Raymond Winfield Overwater, son of William Raymond Overwater and Millie Wentz, on 7 July 1934 in Carson City, Nevada.5 She died on 4 June 1974 in Port Orchard, Kitsap Co., Washington, at age 73.6 She was buried at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard, Kitsap Co., Washington.7
     She went by her middle name Marie.2,8,9 She and her first husband Charles were living in Sacramento, Sacramento Co., California, in 1930, along with her widowed mother Lydia.8 Charles was then working as a janitor for the city.8 In 1940 she was living with her second husband Raymond in North Sacramento9, and he was working as a machinist for an iron works company.9 They later moved to Port Orchard, Kitsap Co., Washington, possibly between 1947 and 1949.10,11

     Raymond Benjamin Parchmann was born on 4 February 1922 in Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois.2 He married as his second wife Melba Frances Aldrich, daughter of Byron Lincoln Aldrich and Gettie Madge Burlingham, on 3 September 1950 in Bakersfield, Kern Co., California.3 They were divorced in February 1953 in Los Angeles Co.4 He died on 8 December 2001 at age 79.2 He was buried at Forest Home Cemetery in Forest Park, Cook Co., Illinois.5
     He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, enlisting on 21 October 1942, and was discharged on 25 January 1946.6
     He lived in California for a few years after the war. He is listed in the 1950 census in Los Angeles, enumerated on 17 April. Living with him as a housekeeper was Melba Franson, who he would marry later that year, and her son Arthur.7 He later moved back to the Chicago area, presumably after his divorce from Melba, where he married twice more.5
     During his lifetime he worked as an insurance underwriter, furniture salesman, deliveryman, taxi driver, and real estate broker. He was a member of the Unitarian Universalists' Near North Fellowship and the World Federalists, loved singing and dancing, and had an extensive knowledge about the history of Chicago.5
