John MacFarlane 85 1950-vol. 98-41-10
California
Son of Malcolm
South West Margaree
There died at Riverside, California, Jan. 25th, 1950, in his 85th year, John, son of the late Malcolm MacFarlane and Sarah MacLellan, both of S. W. Margaree, Inverness Co., NS.
The deceased was a carpenter by trade, after working around Boston for a time, he went west and soon found employment with Gillis Bros. Contractors, Colorado Springs. When there he had the misfortune to break his leg in an accident. As he could not pursue his trade any longer he came back East and established himself in Inverness which was then a booming town and where he made many friends during his stay among them.
Being subject to bronchitis, he returned to the West for the benefit of his health and made considerable improvement for many years and was able to attend to his business.
Of late his health gradually began to give away and around Christmas it became evident that the end was approaching. After few days he received the last rites of the Church from his Pastor, Msgr. Peter Lynch and he had a happy death. Services were conducted in St. Francis de Sales.
Many Mass cards were received, also floral pieces, letters, cards telegrams and messages of sympathy.
He was married twice, first to Flora MacIsaac, Dunvegan, again to Agnes Doyle, Margaree Forks, who survives him. Also surviving is one brother, James on the old home, ten nieces and seven nephews, all but two residing in the Margaree District.
Pall bearers were Knights of Columbus, friends of the deceased: Lambert Nineteman, Joseph McGuire, Frank P. Riordan, Raymond MacCafferty, Jack Nelson and Major John MacIsaac. R.I.P.3
