     He served during the Revolution, enlisting as a private in Capt. David Mosely's company, Col. John Mosely's regiment on 21 September 1777 for the expedition to Saratoga. He was discharged on 17 October 1777.⁶ About seven months later, on 13 May 1778, he was probably the Simeon Stiles who was one of fifteen men from Westfield named in a requisition drafting men for service. Thirteen of those drafted, including Simeon, chose to pay a fine rather than leave their homes.^7,1
