In her husband Durling's will, dated 25 February 1907, about four months before their marriage, she was left all his property, "provided, however, she does not harbor, board, lodge, or assist her brother John W. Hill in any way." If she were to violate these provisions, his property was to go to the church, except for a sum amounting to $2/week from 1 May 1906 until his death, "as compensation for services rendered." What prompted him to make this provision is unknown.4
