He moved with his parents to Denver, Colorado, sometime between 1900 and 1907.1,5
On 1 July 1907 he and Robert Laughead were arrested for the burglary of four Denver houses. They were trying to emulate dime novel characters, but were seen leaving the last house, and were captured after being chased several blocks by group of 50 or so. The stolen goods amounted to "three badly worn neckties, one pair of suspenders, half a dozen handkerchiefs, four pieces of sheet music, and a gold watch."5
He attended North Denver High School, and was said to be "studious and industrious." His family moved to Amarillo, Potter Co., Texas, for a time, where he worked at a hardware store, then back to Denver about 19096, where he worked as a driver for the Davis & Gibbons feed store.7,6
On 5 September 1910 he left Denver and went to Kansas City, Jackson Co., Missouri, to look for work, taking all his belongings with him. He died by suicide the next day after drinking a bottle of arsenic at Union Station in Kansas City. He left a note saying "Some one stole my good clothes, money and letters. I lost my new job today because I did not have any good clothes. I hope my friends and mother will forgive me."6
