- [S3346] The identification of Manuel Wise's second wife as Flora Fuhring, and her first husband as Stewart Nance, is somewhat indirect, but nonetheless compelling. A newspaper article on Manuel's 95th birthday gives her name as Flora Nance, and says she was "of Cowden [Shelby Co.], Illinois." There's an 1899 marriage record in Shelby Co. for Stewart Nance and Flora C. Fuhring; Stewart and Flora are listed together in Cowden in the 1900-1920 censuses with (among others) a daughter Elma in 1910 and 1920; Elma's death record lists her parents as Stewart Nance and Flora Fuhring; and Flora and Stewart are both buried in Block 1, Lot 170, at Mound Cemetery in Shelby Co., Illinois.
