About 1996 | Burial | He was buried about 2 December 1996 in Negba Cemetery in Kibbutz Negba, Israel. |
Note | This is what his wife Tsipora wrote on January 7, 2001 in answer to Gisèle's request concerning her uncle (somebody wrote for Tsipora in English): Naftali was born in 1910 on Yom-Kippur and passed away on December 1,1997. As a youngster he joined the 'Hashomer Hatzair' Youth movement whose ideology was, that there is no future for the Jewish people in Diaspora, and we have to put fundaments for a Jewish state in Palestine. Therefore in 1936 he came to Palestine which was under the British mandate, immediately after finishing his service in the Polish Army. He joined his friends from Pinsk in the Kibbutz which later established Negba, which became very famous during our war of Independence. Our stand in the war with the Egyptian Army is compared to the battle in Stalingrad. In the Polish Army Naftali served as a medical orderly. That enabled him in our battles to save many wounded. Later in peace time he cultivated our fields, which was then the dream of every Israeli "Halutz" (Pioneer). Since his childhood Naftali loved books. At school he already helped the Librarian, at Negba he was the first to put fundaments for a serious Library. All the more, during the War when everything was destroyed, running between the trenches, he collected every piece of historical value, which later became the basis of our well known Archive. While working in the Library he got a brain-stroke; till his last day he spent on a wheel chair. We created a very nice family, two daughters and a son. They enriched us with 13 grand children and one grand-grand child.1 | |
