He lived in Bovingdon, Hertford, England.1 His will was proved on 28 September 1520 at the Archdeacon's court of Huntingdon. His wife Johan and son Thomas were co-executors.1
Thomas Goold had two known brothers, John Golde and William Goolde, both of Bovingdon, Hertford, England. Their wills were proved on 19 April 1537 and 14 April 1545, respectively.
His brother John Golde had children Henry (of age in 1537, d between 25 January 1562/63 when his will was made, and 9 April when it was proved), William (of age in 1537, d between 26 June 1568 when his will was made, and 9 December when it was proved), and Joan (of age in 1537). Henry had children John, Hugh, Agnes, and Anne. William married Alice (--?--), and had children William (b bef 1547), John (b aft 1541), Joseph (b aft 1547), Thomas (b aft 1547), Elizabeth, and Jane.
His brother William Goolde married Alice (--?--), and had children William (of age in 1545), John (of age in 1545), and a daughter (m (--?--) Long, d bef 1545, had a daughter Joan).2
The first few generations in the Gould pedigree were constructed by Horatio G. Somersby, an expert in British genealogy, from ten unindexed wills he discovered in the registry at Peterborough in 1860. The respected genealogist Walter Goodwin Davis notes that this pedigree is probably correct, but starts his section on the Gould line with Richard Gould (b abt 1553, d bef 1604), since he considers this Richard's parentage of as the weakest link.3

The Gould genealogy surmises that she may have been a second wife of Thomas Goold, as five of his seven children were under 21 when his will was proved in 1520.1

He was a large land-owner in Bedford Co., Virginia.3 He acquired 164 acres at the head of Elk Creek on 7 December 1774.6 On 1 November 1790 (or possibly 1793) he bought 420 acres on the south fork of the Otter River and Camp Creek from George Ewing for £300.7 In 1794 he obtained 190 acres on Camp Creek from Joseph Parrish.8 And in 1796 he obtained 100 acres at the southwest end of Ewings Mountain from James Fouldin.9
On 25 February 1799 he and his second wife Elizabeth, along with other legatees of Elizabeth's first husband Benjamin Millam, sold 166 (or possibly 100) acres of land on the west branches of the south fork of the Otter River in Bedford Co., Virginia, to Giles Curmac for £70. The other legatees participating in the sale were John Murphy and his wife Ruth, Solomon Williamson, James Williamson, Jr., and his wife Deborah, Joseph Millam, and Benjamin Millam.10
In 1812 he sold 20 acres of land to John Stiff, that adjoined both his son James's land and Stiff's property.3 He sold 1000 acres on the head branches of Little Otter Creek to Christ Clark in 1813.11
Sometime before 1827 he moved to Logan Co., Kentucky.3 On 24 November 1827 he transferred his remaining land on Camp Creek in Bedford Co., Virginia, totaling 132 acres, to his son James "for and in consideration of the natural love and affection which he hath," and for the future payment of $1.00. The indenture was written and witnessed in Logan Co., Kentucky, then sent to Bedford Co. to be recorded.12
The inventory of his estate was presented in court on 4 November 1831 in Logan Co., Kentucky. It included furniture, books, farm tools, cattle, sheep, horses, hogs, 30 acres of corn, and 27 acres of tobacco. It also included "1 Negro Man William $375, Man Henry 425, Boy Willis 400, old woman Silva 50, Woman Nancy 250." The settlement of the estate is dated 19 December 1834, and was filed 5 January 1835. The administrators were Aaron Campbell, Jarvis Williamson, and John Williamson. At that time the total value was $2307.51. After paying claims against the estate of $140.42, the widow's dower of $742.27, and the administrators' commission of $50, the balance was $1374.82.13

He probably lived on his father's property along Camp Creek, a branch of Otter Creek, in Bedford Co., Virginia.2 In the 1810 census for Bedford Co., Virginia, his household contained a male and female aged 26-45, two males and one female aged 10-16, and two males and three females aged 0-10. However, only five of the children's names are known, from marriage records.2 On 24 November 1827 his father transferred his remaining land on Camp Creek, totaling 132 acres, to him "for and in consideration of the natural love and affection which he hath," and for the future payment of $1.00.5
The inventory of his estate was filed on 14 November 1833 in Bedford Co., Virginia, and valued at $247.42. His widow Deborah was the administratrix. Two sales were held for the property, one on 12 December 1833 and one on 5 October 1834.6
