He and his second wife Mary came to New England shortly after their marriage.2 They settled in Ipswich, Essex Co., Massachusetts,2 where John owned land in 1638, and was listed as a proprietor in 1639, with a lot in Bridge Street.2 On 10 March 1652 he bought a house in Ipswich with about three rods of land, which he had been renting, from Nathaniel Bishop.2 In 1664 he was listed as a shareholder in Plum Island.2
He was made a freeman in Ipswich in November 1645.2 He served as a trial juror in 1646, 1650, and 1655, and as a grand juror in 1647 and 1660.2
He and John West bought a cow in 1641 that died soon afterward. They apparently sued the seller in court, as in March 1642 two men were named to go see the dead cow.2 In September 1665 he successfully sued Enoch Greenleaf to recover a £10 debt from the sale of two steers, that was to have been paid in wheat, malt, and corn.2
In September 1650 he was excused from training for the militia, for which he was to pay 5s/year. He was again excused in 1659 and 1664, each time paying 2s 6d per year.2
Several sources list three daughters for John Wyatt named Mary, Sarah, and Dorcas, based on his will which refers to them as his daughters. More recent research shows, however, that they were actually his stepdaughters, his wife Mary's children from her first marriage with Edward Riddlesdale.2
His will was dated 23 November 1665 in Ipswich, Essex Co., Massachusetts, and proved on 15 January 1665/66. He left his wife Mary the use of the rooms where they were then living. His house, cattle, etc., were left to his grandson John Kimball, who was living with him. He also left 5s to each of his "three Daughters Mary Sarah and Dorcas."1,2
