Suffering patiently from rheumatism and kindred ailments for more that a year, John H. Gillis, Scotsville, Inverness Co., passed to his eternal reward June 25. 1938, in his 76th year. He was the son of Hugh and Ann Gillis, both formerly of S. W. Margaree. Deceased was married twice, his first wife being Catherine A. MacDonald, Upper Margaree, by who he had one son, Peter, living somewhere here in Quebec. He was married the second time to Mary Coady, S. W. Margaree, who survives him, and by whom he had four children: Annie, who is now Mrs. Malcolm D. MacLellan, Inverness; Catherine, who is Mrs. Angus A. Gillis, Upper Margaree; and two son (sic) Patrick and Duncan at home. He is also survived by one brother, Hugh, who lives in Minnesota. In his death the community lost a valuable citizen. As a rate-payer and as a parishioner he was always at the front; and, indeed every movement inaugurated for the public good found in John Hugh a staunch supporter, By his industry and good management he built a prosperous home where he was wont to entertain right royally. He was a man of strong faith and though living nine miles from church he very seldom missed Mass on Sundays or holydays. His funeral was largely attended which testifies to the esteem in which he was held. Requiem high Mass was celebrated by his pastor, Rev. A. Beaton at the graveside was Rev. P. A. MacLellan, Broad Cove. R.I.P.¹

There died in Boston, November 22, 1939, Angus D. MacFarlane, formerly of St. Andrew's, son of the late Dougall MacFarlane and Annie Boyd MacFarlane. Deceased went to the States as a young man and spent some time in Portland, Maine. He lived in Massachusetts this last twenty-five years. Surviving are his sorrowing wife, Mary MacGillivray, formerly of Dunmore, Antigonish Co., also two sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Catherine Flannagan, and Mrs Edward Bowles, Brookline; Alex in Boston; John D. in Hyannis, Mass. After a solemn high Mass in St. Joseph's Church in Roxbury his remains were laid to rest in St. Joseph's Cemetery in West Roxbury.                                        R.I.P.¹⁰
