MotherAngeline Elliott1
Flora Patch was born in July 1870 in Bethel, Branch Co., Michigan.2,1 She married first Jefferson T. Youngs, son of Jacob Youngs and Elizabeth Swikert, on 22 February 1893 in Coldwater, Branch Co., Michigan.1 She married second William Aley about 1921.3

She and her first husband Jefferson had two children, Kenneth Patch (b 30 August 1895) and Charles (b 30 August 1898). From the records, it appears that at birth Kenneth's name was recorded as Leon K. Youngs, with a birth date of 31 August 1896. However, in the handwritten record the name and date have been changed to Kenneth Patch Youngs and 30 August 1895, with the notation "Aff. filed 7-6-42." To confuse matters a bit, there's also a birth record for Leon K. Young, with parents Jefferson and Flora, dated 3 August 1895. Further, the 1900 and 1910 census entries for the family list both Kenneth P. and Charles, but the 1900 census says Flora had had just one child, while the 1910 census says she had two.6,7,8,2,4

Gilbert S. Gulliksen1

b. 13 May 1864, d. 30 April 1930
FatherSvend Gulliksen2,1
MotherMartha Gunderson2,1
Gilbert S. Gulliksen was born on 13 May 1864 in Roldal, Hordaland, Norway.2 He was baptized on 25 December 1864 in Suldal parish, Roldal, Hordaland, Norway.2 He married Rosilla M. Breeson, daughter of Philip R. Breeson and Mary Ann Swikert, on 31 October 1888 in Columbus, Platte Co., Nebraska.1 He died on 30 April 1930 in Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon, at age 65 by suicide, from swallowing a large amount of arsenic.3 He was buried on 8 May 1930 at Lincoln Memorial Park in Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon.3
He was baptised as Gullik Svendsen2, and is listed in the 1905 Wisconsin state census as Gullik Gulliksen, but is listed as Gilbert Gulliksen in most records found online.4 He came to the United States with his parents and three siblings on the ship Heros in 1868, arriving first in Quebec, Canada on 2 June.5
On 28 January 1893 he was arrested and charged with assault with intent to kill. According to testimony by August Ziegler, Gulliksen had been drinking, and while they were at Gulliksen's harness shop in South Shore, Codington Co., South Dakota, Gulliksen raised a hame (part of the collar of a draft horse) to hit him. Ziegler left, pushing Gulliksen aside as he did so. Gulliksen followed him into the street, drew a gun saying "I will kill you, you ___." Ziegler deflected his arm as the gun discharged, and ran. Gulliksen aimed at him and pulled the trigger, but the gun didn't fire. The case was sent to the grand jury, with bond set at $1000.6 No other information on this incident has been found online. Apparently charges were either dropped, or Gilbert served minimal prison time, as he and Rosilla had a son born in February 1894.7
However, in 1900 he was being held as a prisoner in Flandreau, Moody Co., South Dakota, by the county sheriff Charles McFarland. At the same time his wife Rosilla and their children were living with John Mock and his family in nearby Egan. Both are listed as married.8,7 In the 1905 Wisconsin state census he's listed as Gullick Gullickson, single and a farmer, in Black Brook, Polk Co.4 He's listed as Gilbert S. Gullicksen, divorced and a harness maker, in Correll, Big Stone Co., Minnesota, in 19109, and in Nunda, Lake Co., South Dakota, in 1915.10 He was living in Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon, in 1920 and 1930, with his daughter Bertha's family in 192011, and on his own in 1930.12
He and Rosilla had four children, all born in South Dakota: Bertha (b December 1889), Philip (b February 1894), Samuel E. (b April 1896), Imogene M. (b April 1899).7,13
