His surname also appears as Wasson.7
During the War of 1812, Robert Wason served 5 months 27 days in Capt. Rogers' Co., Col. Fifield's Regt. of Detached Militia, in 1812. He also volunteered to go to Plattsburgh in September 1814, and served in Capt. Abel Jackman's Co.7
He and his wife Elizabeth are listed in the census of 1850 in Otsego, Allegan Co., Michigan, with their daughters Abigail, Emeret, and Victoria. Living next to them were their daughter Elizabeth and her family, and son Caldwell and his family.8 He was working as a potash boiler.8
His will was dated 15 August 1868 in Allegan Co., Michigan. The witnesses were George Swikert (his daughter Amorette's brother-in-law) and Margaret Swikert (presumably George's wife) of Allegan Co. He left $1.00 each to his sons Johnson and Caldwell, and to his daughters Amorette Swikert, Cynthia Bellinger, and Victoria Sturdevant. He also left $50.00 to be invested by his son-in-law Jacob Sturdevant for his grandson Edward Sturdevant. He left the rest of his estate to his daughter Amorette Swikert. His will does not name Elizabeth Sweetland or Abigail Cissne, who were named in his wife Betsey's will in 1864. Amorette Swikert petitioned on 3 February 1869 to admit her late father Robert Wason's will to probate. The will was filed on 29 June 1869.9

He served during the Civil War as a musician in Co. G of the 6th Michigan Infantry, enlisting on 14 August 1861. (The regiment was re-designated as the 6th Michigan Heavy Artillery on 28 July 1863, after he had been discharged.) The regiment was mustered in on 20 August 1861, and ten days later left for Baltimore, Maryland, where they spent the winter. On 22 February 1862 they were ordered to Fortress Monroe in Virginia, and later served in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas. Johnson Wason, however, was discharged for disability a month earlier, on 20 January 1862, and thus saw no military action.8,9,10,11
He and his wife Amoretta are listed in the census of 1870 in Otsego Twp., Allegan Co., Michigan, along with their son James, age 22. Living next door were Homer Wason (age 28) and his family, indicating that Homer may have also been their son.5 Johnson Wason was a farmer, with real estate worth $4000, and personal property worth $525.5 In the 1880 census, he is listed in the household of John Goss in Otsego, Allegan Co., Michigan, as a hired hand.12 From his death record, it appears that later in life he was a resident at the Michigan Old Soldiers' Home in Grand Rapids, Kent Co., Michigan, and died in Otsego while on furlough.6

He was named in his father's will, dated 10 July 1617 and proved 19 Sep 1617, and received much of his father's estate, including: land in Harberton Ford called Racheparke, together with three houses apparently being rented out, plus the orchard, nursery, and herb garden; the mansion house on land called Crobers Land, also apparently being rented out, along with the sheep pen, orchard, herb garden, and bakehouse, for his use during his lifetime; and £100. He and his mother Isett also received half of the household goods, to be divided equally.2
In 1624 he was taxed on land he owned in Harberton, Devon, England.2
He, probably with his wife Ulalia and their children, emigrated to New England in the winter of 1638/39 or the spring or summer of 1639.2 His house in Roxbury, Massachusetts, burned, and the town was granted £8 by the General Court in November 1639 to compensate for the loss.2 He lived in Springfield, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts, from 1640 to 1662, where he served as clerk of the writs.1,2

He never married.2 He was once engaged, but his fiancee was drowned on 3 June 1714 while they were crossing a river on their way home from a party. Quoting a letter from Miss Lucretia Stiles, of Windsor, Connecticut, in 1858:
A tragical incident of his early life cast a shadow over his remaining days, though he lived to old age. He had an engagement of marriage with a young lady, a near neighbor of his, of the family of Stoughton. The day of the wedding was fixed, his house fitted up in an expensive style very unusual in that day; and the sun of prosperity shone brightly on him and his intended bride. At this time they were invited to attend a gay party in East Windsor, and he was very desirous of going. The young lady's mother was unwilling her daughter should go, as on her return they would have to cross the river at night. He urged and she consented. He told her if her daughter drowned he should die with her. On their return from the party, the boat sank in the river, and he attempted to swim with her to shore, and supported her until he lost consciousness. They were taken from the water, both apparently dead, but her spirit had indeed fled forever.
And, quoting Timothy Loomis' Manuscript, "June 3, 1714, at night, Dorothy Stoughton, of Windsor, and John Allyn, of Enfield, were drowned in the great River, against Sgt. [Joseph] Stiles."1
